If they don't restrict the number of foreign players in the club squads, nothing will ever change. Everyone knows that, but there doesn't seem to be the desire to change it.

Hart being on there is truly laughable.

I imagine, bar Kane, this is Southgate's provisional squad for Russia. If that is the case, Hart has to be the keeper he gets rid of.

Hart being **** is just the usual massively exaggerated, sensationalist stuff we get about England players. If he was foreign no one would talk about his form, but because he's England's number 1 he's under constant scrutiny and people are determined to find fault with him. He's barely ever let England down, which can't be said for many England keepers of the last couple of decades, and every little thing gets exaggerated into a massive howler. He was beaten by a Gareth Bale free kick, who smashes them in the corner against every ****er and the reaction was it was all Hart's fault. That goal the other day was at worst a minor error in failing to keep hold of an awkwardly bouncing shot. Hardly going to make it onto any 'howler' compilation videos, but because it's Hart it's made out as if he chucked it in his own net or something. Butland did literally that the other week but strangely there's no rage about him in the squad. Because it's not as trendy to criticise the number 2 who plays for a smaller club. Hart is just the latest in a long line. Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Beckham, Terry. Whoever is the most established and high profile is always the one people want rid of and seek to find fault with.

Have you actually watched Hart playing this season?

Or any of the past few seasons for that matter?

    He's been absolutely terrible.

Nicely summed up by The Guardian today...

    Joe Hart

There is just no justification for Hart – another former England skipper – to even come close to a call-up. He has the worst save success in the Premier League (54.9%), has conceded the most goals per game (2.2) and he committed another error at the weekend while Nick Pope stood tall at the opposite end.

What does "another error" really mean? Things that aren't serious errors for other players count as massive howlers for Hart. He certainly hasn't done one as bad as Butland's against Leicester the other week, yet all the talk is about Hart.

And save percentage clearly doesn't mean very much looking at the rest of that graphic. If I recall, the same stat was used to show that Jakupovic was about the third best keeper in the PL at times last season.

We've had all this with Rooney, then when he retired suddenly everyone was a big fan all along. It's just the done thing. We pick the most established player in the team and go to town on them.

Even for you PLT, defending Hart getting called up seems a bridge too far.

All of those other keepers in the pic on OLM's post deserve to be in the squad more.

But you, and many people across the country, have said this stuff about every squad for years. Going back at least as far as Sven's days, the England manager has always been a target of derision; whoever he picks is always wrong, and particularly the big names are always the ones that the masses demand to see the back of. Yet all these different managers, each an expert at what they're doing, consistently stick with these unpopular players as the country demands they stop getting picked. If it was just one particular manager then yeah maybe it's their strange personal preference, but surely at some point you have to look at this and ask if maybe there's a good reason they all keep picking them. It's not like they don't watch as much football or understand what they're watching as well as us. You have to be very arrogant to keep ignoring it and thinking you know better surely.

We can hardly discuss his form because he never plays yet makes the England squad.

Take your blinkers off, he’s not worthy his place in the squad.

There is a huge desire. I went to a lunch three weeks ago where Southgate spoke and a couple of people from the FA. The changes they want to make are against EU regulation. The main change they are looking at is stopping clubs bringing foreigners into academies. Southgate is a big believer that academies should be about giving local lads a chance. He spoke really well on the subject. I have to say after hearing them speak they really do want to make changes but these things take time.

Whilst that's good to hear, I don't believe it will happen. It's been a criticism for years, but things only seem to get worse.

As it's an EU regulation, maybe things will start to change after(or if) we leave, but the big money clubs are the clubs with the influence and they'll want to carry on signing whoever they wish.

I honestly believe England's chances of winning anything at all, have gone forever and that's just another by product of allowing money to rule the game.

    Actually I blame the Allams.

    still though
the players ain't as good as german or spanish players

    too much money too quick

too much of a lack of an education

german and spanish academies especially the famous ones as well as the french one
have a big focus on education etc alongside the football

Strangely enough we were talking to the Man. City scout at the Norwich game - he was there to monitor Gunn's progress (and didn't seem particularly impressed). We mentioned Joe Hart and it turned out that he'd originally recommended him to them but described him now as having "lost the plot".

Hart should be nowhere near the squad based on at least the past 2-3 years. He simply isn't up to the standard anymore, let alone Premier League level which is is struggling with. God knows why as he should be in his prime right now, but he's lost it.

He's picked the squad with the best players playing at the moment and dropped Joe Hart in because he wants consistency. I can only imagine he's there to advise some younger players and to mentor Nick Pope. Each keeper will probably get 45 mins. Will be interesting to see how Hart does, he's at a club that's imploding worse than ours is.
In other news, how has Jarrod Bowen not been called up for Wales?

I didn't even know Jarrod was Welsh <doh>
That just shows how out of touch I'm becoming. ****ing depressing that.

Bowen's done amazingly well for us this season and to think he probably wouldn't have got the chance had we not been so short of players.
