Think you may be right, I also heard that he was flown down from Manchester almost daily, which is no big deal now, but back in the day it was quite an expense for the club?
Was that the one that hit the back stanchion (i.e. went in) but was hit so hard and came out so fast that the goal wasn't given? Oh, for goal line technology then.
Whilst before his appointment we could have agreed on a lot of things, now he is in post, I think we need to put those thoughts behind us and get behind the team (as I'm sure you will). Actually I'm happier that he talks about an affinity with the club. Sincerity is a wonderful thing. Fake it till you make it comes a decent second option.
Skinner and Baddiel were furious about it on their show at the time....then had an argument about how you pronounce stanchion.
Welcome to Saint Mark! Now get them stirred up and let's start winning. (The free Rolling Stones tickets obviously swayed it. )
Here’s a thought, Sparky is the first former striker we have had as a manager since Paul Sturrock. That didn’t end well, but Hughes was a much better player than Sturrock and has proved he can manage a top-flight club reasonably successfully. Edit: the previous former striker-turned manager in our history was a Mr Edric Thornton Bates, who held the job for 18 years.
Friends of mine know Steven Davis who was apparently saying to them how he hopes whoever comes in (this was before Hughes appointment) brings a fair bit of discipline because apparently the younger members of the squad aren't acting how they should be...
That was a Leeds let off. And to think, we moan about refs now, that was a crazy miss from the men in black!
Sounds about right. Its obvious we are missing on the playing field leaders. But also off it seems to be rather apparent. These youngsters need someone to keep them in check, and help them progress. Its not just about clocking in on time, that's not enough.
i wonder what the backroom staff lineup is going to be, all promoted from inhouse, or sparky brings his own team in?
