Southgate is apparently going to give call-ups to Burnley's Nick Pope and James Tarkowski. At least he's picking some players on merit, rather than just who they play for.

Bit unfair somewhat, Nick Pope should absolutely be in the squad. Not many English keepers playing better. Also, Burnley are playing pretty bloody well, the English players in their squad who are playing well deserve a chance. This is a squad for friendlies, there's nothing to play for, it gives Southgate a chance to see who he should take to Russia.
England Manager can never win with an England Squad due to fans club loyalties....but he certainly wont win with that one!! Welbeck??? Livermore?? At least there is no Cahill, Smalling and Jones.

Maybe whoever says it thinks the same , can only speak for myself - no criticism of the manager , there is just hardly anybody worth choosing from - the likes of Fowler and Ian Wright used to never get a look in because of the forwards in front of them , it is just a shame that the depth of English players just isn't there
