Agree with that Fran, why would he go in and rant. That Newcastle performances was the accumulation of several months of negative, dreadfully safe, scared tactical training. Felt a bit sorry for them, when usually I'd be angry.
Welcome back to the shrivelled old prune. Whilst I am far from excited about the appointment, at least now we hopefully have a chance of something changing in a positive way. Fingers crossed Listening on the radio way back when he played for us, half thought his name was Hughes-Foul
Would like to know how much we paid him back then. Someone on here earlier suggested it was the same as Matt, but it clearly wasn't as he was never paid well by us.
If he keeps us up, we will see whether he thinks it's as funny trying to hold on them as it is trying to sign them. I think not.
Briefly read that as Spanky on my tiny screen Thought this was the start of another Beefyesque Safeguarding alert Relieved
I think he was paid considerably more, which was part of the reason the two weren’t exactly best buddies at the time. May be wrong on that though (memory not what it once was!)
Yeah, that was my thinking. Matt would have come across as a little frustrating to someone like Mark, that's fair enough. But, I would have my sympathy with Matt for not getting paid his worth. But, that's for another time.
Despite his performances in a Saints shirt, which came in the twilight of a great career, there will be few who will need reminding of what a superb player he was. One thing my Man Utd mates always said about him was that he was (a) hard as buggery and (b) incapable of recognising a lost cause. Seem pretty good characteristics for the man to lead us in the next few weeks. United fans are as fickle as anyone, but their idolising of Mark Hughes is still evident among those who saw him. I remember when he was at OT for Saints - that 3-3 draw - and he hit a volley from bloody miles out that crashed back off the bar. The whole of Old Trafford rose and chanted "Hughesie". Not many ex-players get that sort of treatment. We might lose to Wigan. We might go down. I'm sure we'll do neither without some fight.
and he hit a volley from bloody miles out that crashed back off the bar _______________________ Was just thinking about that one this morning. It was struck so well, it was almost slow motion. I remember slapping my hands over my face in disbelief that it didn't go in! It was so sweet. He didn't score many for us, but he had quite a few of them!
as much as anything else, a bit of this is what's needed. Yes, we need passion and fight, but our guys need to remember how to enjoy themselves. It feels like life and death to us, but it isn't - and the whole team need to rediscover the joy of playing, and doing so as a team. Let's see some smiles..
