There were old women hanging out washing at what appeared to be the wing tip of the 747.

Once in a life time experience!

Depended on wind direction if you got the pleasure of landing that way. I did.

Try visit Table Mountain once. It's pretty exciting. Cape Town is running out of water at the moment though, so bring your own.

There's loads to do in the far east. You have the floating markets of bankok, then there are the islands. The killing fields in Cambodia and then up to Ankor wat. The tunnels of Chu chi in vietnam and ho chi min city. That's without the likes of singapore, phillipines, japan, s korea, malaysia, hong kong etc. There is a lot to cram in, in that part off the world. Plus you are 2/3 of the way to Oz and new zealand.

Ankor Wat is interesting if you fancy a spot of minesweeper.

I have been to North East India. An undiscovered paradise, not the same as the "traditional" India at all. No Bollywood and no tuk tuks. Definitely worth a visit if you like wide open spaces.

Kia Tak was a unique airport in terms of approach. They used to have a big checkerboard painted onto the side of a hill which Pilots looked out for and then did a sharp right bank to line up with the runway. Past a few high rise buildings and then plant it down on the tarmac. Never flew into Hong Kong, but would have loved to have done that landing.

Anyway, here's a vid for the plane nerds :emoticon-0126-nerd:

In Asia I would visit Bali - got everything from beaches to volcanoes, from cool beach clubs to culture. Its also a small island and easy to get to from Singapore, which is always a hub on round world trips.
    My world favourite place:
Cusco in Peru. Just a cool city with access to Machu Picchu, an amazing place, amid spectacular mountain scenery. More difficult to get to but well worth it.

Traveled a reasonable amount of Asia, Japan and Hong Kong are obvious stand outs but I spent a couple of weeks in Taiwan and had a great time, really under appreciated and you can see the majority of the "main" attractions over a 2-3 week period plus its cheap!

tokyo a big city. It was good but i wouldn't say dramatically special.

Kyoto is great for culture. Mix of old meets new. Pretty amazing. I didn't go to any of the big mountains but hakone is pretty.

It's amazing and differnet. I would say 5 days and you'll have experienced it though, especially as i don't imagine AFC is going to be partying it up

I'll be flying into Thailand and Cambodia is definitely on the list, killing fields and Ankor Wat both look really interesting. Anything else in Cambodia I should make sure I see?

Don't think I'll be able to handle the tunnels of Chu Chi - small spaces stress me out!

I've been to Singapore before and really liked it, think I'll miss it this time though. S. Korea I'll do 2-3 days, not sure what to see while I'm there but feel like it's the sort of place I'll find things easily.

I'm going to be flying out of Kuala Lumpur so will spend some time in Malaysia. I'm 50/50 on whether I'll visit the Phillipines, is it worth the visit? Where would you recommend there?

Do you know if it's possible to get a boat to Bali from elsewhere in Asia? Or is it somewhere you have to fly?

I'll be in Peru for sure, I'll be flying out of Lima and most likely getting there overland from further south in South America. Machu Picchu worth a look then? Is it a bus to get to Cusco? Any other highlights in Peru?

I've got someone I can stay with in Taiwan so will probably stop there but again it's somewhere I'm only planning a few days for. Any must see/dos?
