Newcastle are to sign highly rated Lens centre back Narnel Situ , 20 , after a successful trial. They are also closing on a 6 million deal for PSV Eindhoven left back Erik Pieters and remain interest in Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga.

No news about Barton in it.

 

Things starting to sound more optimistic suddenly, but the deadline is getting close.

No idea when or if we'll actually get striker, but i can see Ranger being loaned to Birmingham.

Shame about Cissokho, but i never really felt we were serious about him.

They are also closing on a £6m deal for PSV Eindhoven left-back Erik Pieters after his agent Piet van der Pol said: 'I don't know the exact numbers of Newcastle's offer, but I'm pretty sure that the transfer will go ahead.'
Newcastle remain keen on Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga but have also asked about Brest's Nolan Roux and Guilleme Hoarau of PSG.
Sochaux are keen on Leeds United winger Max Gradel.
