Whatever my reservations about Hughes, I too am extremely confident that he is the best manager we have had this year. So welcome!
Thank Christ it feels like we've got our hope back, I was fast losing it completely. Now let's get stuck in!
I simply do not understand why anyone should get excited about employing a manager who was sacked recently by another club for failing to do the job for them that he is expected to do for you. This must be the only profession in the world where failure is rewarded by giving them yet another job on mega bucks. There seems to be a continuous merry-go-round of managers in the premier league, as well as the other leagues I suppose so football in general, where people appear to just jump on and off but are never without a job for long no matter how badly they do. I love his statement about bringing experience of the premier league. His only experience seems to be that he gets sacked for fecking things up. Best of luck to you if you think that's your saving angel.
T.W.A.T. Must be an acronym for something applicable. Am I excited at taking on Stoke's sacked manager. No. Relieved we have someone who just might smell the coffee. Bloody right
He's a Janner who sucks up to the Skates (and is just as bitter), something to do with the RN I think.....
You make your own luck to a large degree. No manager would have been better than Pellegrino and Hughes will be better than no manager. This is the best thing we could have hoped for realistically. Its a long shot but we have a better chance of staying up than we did last week.
Not bitter at all Saints it is simply a genuine question. I don't understand how failures can just stroll into yet another job is all and that people seem to be happy about it. I sort of understand the relief in getting rid of the last bloke but surely the survival chances now are the most important thing rather than just anyone being the choice.
Because he was good for Stoke until he wasn’t. We’re not looking for the next Guardiola, we just want someone to fire up our underperforming squad for 8 Premier League games and hopefully 3 FA Cup games. At this stage that’s all we want, and he’s the best we could realistically get given our position and our finances.
You are absolutely right. Everyone knows that we have taken on a manager who has guided a rival club into exactly the same predicament we find ourselves in. The bigger picture is that we aren't Stoke so its not an apples to apples comparison. We have underperformed in many areas and been mismanaged in many others. We have needed a manager who knows the league and how to set up our side to deal with the opponent. He needs more than 8 games but he isnt going to get it. We need to survive and we have a better chance with him than we did with MP2. Thats how desperate we have become, we dont have the luxury of time.
Buzzing now. Not my first choice, but I actually feel more positive about this than if we had hired Silva. Kick some arse, Sparky. Kick some fu#%ing arse.
Having already expressed by views on Hughes, I would add that he was probably unfairly treated by the new owners at Manchester City. He was doing better than OK when he was dismissed, as I recall. Built the nucleus of a pretty decent team there. And as for Fulham, he did well to stay as long as he did working for a helmet like Fayed. Les and Ralph will be a piece of cake by comparison.
