I'll probably have one stop in the Caribbean but don't think I'll be able to persuade the other half to choose Jamaica!
I've heard lots of good things about Japan, think I'll probably do a few days there (I expect I'll probably do a longer separate trip there but for this trip only planning on spending a few days in the more expensive Asian countries that I visit). If I'm only there for a few days what would you recommend doing?
Depends what you’re looking for. Although I’ve been out there, I’m no great expert on the area. I’d speak to either @Commachio @The Ginger Ninja or @JakartaToon
Never been to Japan so can't comment but if you get the chance to stop over in Hong Kong then you should. It's the most amazing and interesting city I've been to in the world. You need a week minimum really but just go, see for yourself. It's ****ing mega!
Like with Japan, Hong Kong is somewhere I'm hoping to spend 2-3 days. Anything in particular I should make sure I see/do?
Have you been to New York? I found it quite overwhelming and a bit hard to take to (even as someone who has lived their life in London) but worth going to if you haven't been.
Go on the Star Ferry and go up the Peak. You'll see loads just doing those two things and they cost **** all. Then it's markets/food/nightlife/beaches/national parks. The place has everything. Go and get lost there, literally and metaphorically. Go to Happy Valley races for a night meet. Brilliant night out and probably the cheapest beer in HK. I was lucky enough to go to finals day of the Hong Kong 7's the first time I went. Superb day out, a definite bucket list tick or whatever you call them.
The All Blacks won with Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen playing. Lomu throwing quarter back bombs cross field! Was brilliant.
They do that here. There’s a club not far from where I live who are a top club here in Spain. At home games a guy comes around with a barrel strapped to his back and tops you up in your seat!..
Not been to New York but have family there. The final stop on my trip will either be a Caribbean stop or New York but I'm leaning towards the Caribbean as I can go and visit my family in New York whenever. My other half has been to New York and loved it so it's definitely somewhere I'll go to eventually!
Cheers for the advice! I'll have a look into the ferry and Peak. Not sure I'll be able to convince my fiancé to go to the races though
Coincidence, eh? My older brother lived there at the time so fortunately sorted tickets. Had the 'pleasure' of flying into the old airport too!
It's a good night out. Great atmosphere and the Chinese are mad for a bet. Just watch them and have some drinks while watching the races, it definitely is not boring!
