Just seen that HMV in town is shutting down. Opened in 1994 by Bob Geldof. Apparently they're looking to relocate within Southampton, but not sure where yet. I've bought many a CD in there down the years, it makes for an easily accessible selection of music. I guess digital downloads are killing places like HMV. I still buy and listen to CDs fairly regularly but I suspect that's becoming less common.

I used to spend hours in there as a teenager, lazing around town buying hidden gems and listening to them on a CD walkman on the train ride home.
I still buy a lot of CDs and will pick them over their cheaper mp3 counterparts as I prefer owning a physical copy but I know I'm in the minority.
Surprisingly they are now often cheaper than Amazon for a lot of albums so I've found myself buying more instore than online.

I'm the same. I bought the first Royal Blood album a few years ago as a digital download and regretted it to the point where I have since bought the CD too <laugh>

The thing that I like about HMV is just browsing which is far easier/more enjoyable to do in store than online! I do find that the price varies to the point that it's worth checking in store and on Amazon to see which is cheaper. I've found instances where it's cheaper in HMV AND instances where it's cheaper on Amazon. If I'm busy and know what I want to buy, I will just order on Amazon though, especially with Prime next day delivery.

:emoticon-0148-yes: I don't own a single digital album that I don't also have a physical copy of too with the exception of obscure bands who only release digital versions.
I used to download a lot of music via Napster then later on Winmx and Limewire but I'd always buy the actual album if it was good. Saved a lot of money over the years doing that and now that youtube has taken their place I only download from Amazon using autorip or whatever it's called now.
Think I'm coming up to 1,000 CD's in my collection but it needs trimming as there's some I've not picked up in years.

I do similar, find music that I like online and then go out and buy the album.
    Blimey 1000 CDs
I have several hundred I imagine. But not even close to a thousand! I mainly listen to the them in the car these days.

They do like moving it about. It was in the Bargate and Hanover Buildings before that.

I think I have about 1200. Everyone says I should get rid of them because I rarely play them, but I cannot best to part with them - a bit like the 400+ LPs I have (that’s vinyls to you youngsters). I’d like to think when I’m gone my children will make a bit of money flogging them, but I bet they’ll probably just give them away!
I have digital music of course - listen to it in the car, but still plan on getting a decent turntable when I get the house sorted, so I can listen in comfort and really enjoy!

I like CD's too. It's good to dig through them and come up with something you haven't played for years. You don't get the song words with digital. :)

Very true, plus some albums have cracking artwork which is another downside to digital.
That and CD's sound better than a lot of digital music, especially when it's streamed due to compression issues.

The crackling after 50 plays just added to the experience...that and the big bit of dust on the needle. :p

Your right, art wise there's no competition between CDs and LPs :emoticon-0148-yes:
Theres no denying that LPs can sound much better too but that's more to do with the loudness war and the advent of digital music than the actual physical product.
