It is almost beyond a coincidence now???? Are the players trying to tell someone something?? Thoughts? AllHell
It's lack of concentration - which comes from lack of fitness. Inexcusible, since Charlton have had several games postponed in the last few months. Our players have had more time than most to train and keep fit without too many matches to drain them. Well that will be changing soon. From Friday 30th March onwards the team will be playing twice a week almost right through until early May. If they are not fit enough to play two games in four days after a fortnight off, how will they cope with not having any down time for five weeks? Other League One teams have the fitness to prevent us scoring late goals, and to hurt us with goals of their own. Our failed players should look to themselves. They are as responsible as Robinson for not having enough about them to play a whole match.
Last night we were very fortunate not to concede for the 90 minutes. However there has been a pattern, which is that we play nice football for 30 minutes or so, look the better team, maybe even for the whole first half. After that the opposition gets more physical, forces us to hurry, we can't handle it, and lose the initiative and in the later stages we are dominated. This is my impression from the limited amount I've seen.
The players are mentally weak - a recurring theme over the last 18 months. Robinson has read the chapter in the book on “Team Spirit” but is a million miles away from creating a side that has it. Anyone who saw Lennie’s side at Selhurst would know what team spirit really looks like. Where are our comparable leaders in this anaemic side? Where are the Shirtliffs and the Grittys ?
Remember Kish.... when asked to run through a brick wall for Charlton... would then ask "Just the one, Mr Curbs?"
