The Outsider....netflix. ****e Leto ego piece. I'm not one for cultural appropriation nonsense but this probably comes close.......and dull with it. Watch a proper yakuza film like Battles without Honour or Humanity instead.
On the talking dead at the end of last season, one of the producers said "this is just the start" after being asked if they'd started to think about writing a ending I still really enjoy watching it though. I don't care that it's slower than it used to be. (I'm up to date on it btw)
Just finished Annihilation. Good stuff. Worth a watch. Not a pacey scifi action thing. Can see why they binned the idea of going to cinemas and straight to Netflix. It wouldn't have had good boxoffice. Couple of flaws (I'm sure the scientists on here will pick out more) but I enjoyed it.
Well into Altered Carbon now I normally can't be arsed with futuristic/sci fi but this has got me hooked which pleases mrs because she likes this genre. Waiting for the fifth season of Vikings although it's going to follow the exploits of Ragnar's sons

Can't believe people are making a big deal about Netflix paying Matt Smith more than Claire Foy ON the crown. It's the difference in pay between a world famous actor and a "nationally famous" actress (assuming she was famous in Britain before hand). I do believe women should get equal pay for equal work, but you can't compare a world famous actors pay with that of someone who is only known locally. To expect a little known actress to be paid the same as someone Docwho wastor Who is a little silly. Outside of the UK at the very least, Smith was always going to draw in more people... And Netflix IS a global company.
Except she's literally the lead and character focus of the programme. His character is important but the programme wouldn't be made if it was just about Prince Phillip lol. I mean I'd say using your Dr Who example that the day before Jodie Whitaker was announced more people in the UK knew who Bradley Walsh was than her but I'd really like to hope he's not being paid more...
When casting they didn't know how successful it would be and they've already said that the new season will be equal pay. Top show by the way. 9/10
True but that kind of takes Milks point about international vs national away as I assume the bare minimum Netflix was looking at was a strong UK audience.... possibly Yank after that. I agree btw in general. .. Quality of movies aside another good example would be say Lethal Weapon 3... I'd find it perfectly acceptable that Gibson and Glover would earn more than Russo but would also find it odd for say Russo to earn less than Brosnan in The Thomas Crown affair etc etc. In first film ...the two men are the focus, established within the franchise and the selling point. In the second both characters are equally vital to movie, on screen as much as each other etc. In general it's quality of movie as well. If it's a star vehicle like a Cruise film, then the chances are they are getting paid more..as they are the selling point, most screen time etc Where the real inequality shows up is if the cast just underneath with equal lesser screen time have unequal pay by gender. I can't remember the examples I've read but there's been instances where a male cameo has been paid more than an actress with much more screen time.... etc..
On the otherside ...what was the example of reshoots and it turned out the male demanded more and got than the female lead ...Whalberg I think. To me that just sounds like she had a crap manager..... he asked he got. It would be different if they'd both asked for an amount and he'd got it and she didn't.. ..
She's the lead character yes... But noone outside the UK has ever heard of her... They see a famous name "Matt Smith" in the credits and they say (if they're a fan of Smith)... "Oh look, this has Matt Smith in this... It must be good" The show is about Elizabeth, but noone knows who Claire Foy is (outside the UK... Which is a small % of Netflix's market).. She isn't going to bring eyes to watch the show. Matt Smith very well might bring eyes to the show. He's famous. If you have a team of architects working on a building... The one that worked on famous landmarks in the past is going to get a higher salary than his fresh-faced colleagues even if his colleagues do most of the work. It's no different to any other industry. Here in the US my doctor probably makes 10 times the salary of the nurses even though I see the nurse for 10 minutes and the doctor only comes in to briefly shake my hand and hand me a prescription. It's not that unusual to see in films a famous actor get top billing over the lead role... Especially if the lead role is a child. The kids watched wonder recently. I think the lead character was 4th or 5th billed.
Oh and regarding Walsh and Whittaker. Walsh may be the better known in the UK, but Whittaker has been in both Black Mirror and Broardchurch both shows that have been shown widely overseas and not just for a UK audience. Even before being named Doctor Who she was probably better known globally than Whittaker. I know that I knew who she was... I'd never heard of Whittaker before.
