What does 'writing him off' actually involve though? As far as I've seen, people criticised him for half-arsed performances which were mainly (all?) back in the Slutsky days. Did anyone say he'd never be any better than that?
I haven’t got specific examples, but I’m pretty confident people called him a terrible footballer and actually asked if he even was a footballer.
I know, he must have been doing an impression of someone who is ****e, so he can come good just when we have all lost hope. He had a cunning plan.
Well he wasn't ****e for lack of ability. He just seemed scared to get involved. His performances against Sunderland at home and Barnsley away were absolutely appalling. I can't remember seeing someone look more scared of contact than he did in those games, nor can I remember a City crowd making their frustration so clear at a single player's lack of effort as in that Barnsley game.
He used to hide behind opposition players so he wouldn't get a pass, never in space, never looking forward, lets hope that's his former self !
Was it, oooh as a wild guess, that he was carrying an injury and didn’t want to aggravate it? His almost consistent carrying of injuries / or having just recovered from one was partly the reason I never passed judgement on him. He clearly needed a run in the team.
What a week. Just got back from a week in Turkey (**** planning by Err in doors) Had to wait up until about 12.45 on the Tuesday we played Millwall due to the 3 hour time difference to find out the result. Much of the pain was relieved by the company of a twentysomething Ukranian beauty and a real stunner from Turkmenistan. Err in doors was in close attendance unfortunately. Saturday was another edge of the the bar stool evening watching BBC update minute by minute. At 1-3 down attention turned to the bar but as we all now know Nige had it sorted and Abel pulled it around. Went mad when the 4th went in. Four penalties in a single game says a lot about the refereeing though. The last 10 minutes was nail biting due to past experience as we all know. Finally arrived home last night and managed to pick up Viking just as Henriksen smashed home the first then listened all the way along the M62. All in all not a bad week except for them cockney bastards. Bring on Brum.
As good as the result was last night, that was the kind of game we'd have won by 5 or 6 under Slutsky, so I can't get too upbeat about it. Other than that, Irvine is starting to look a very good player and looks to be enjoying himself on the pitch.
I feel your pain brother. We had four years of Steve Bruce. The difference being we'd spent maybe £100m on players by the end so we had a few capable of creating something from nothing to get a goal and a result here and there.
To be fair, the way some have talked about him since it was announced he was off, you would've thought he was never any good for us.
I actually love it when a player proves me wrong and I'm more than happy to hold my hands up. There's no shame at all, but some seem to think there is. Anyways, last night more or less rubber stamped our place in the championship. Rejoice
