Arsene has repeatedly hinted in the wake of Fab and Nasri leaving our club, that he intends to promote from within (i.e. internally) and externally. Let's assume the worst case scenario and we end up not finding a "suitable" player/s to replace the departed duo (Arsene-speak for paying peanuts for a marquee player), do we have a Wilshere/Nasri/Fab type gem in the reserves on the brink of greatness waiting in the wings......?
I must admit I have not seen much of the reserve players, I know they won all their pre-season games and won 2 out of 2 this season.
Another question on the subject of signings, are we really obsessed with BIG MONEY signings? Does big money signing/big name generally translate to success on the pitch? I know Citeh/Chelski/Manure have raised the bar.

If you don't like my posts ignore them but what you don't have the right to do is to tell me to stop. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Call me a regression maestro, I will be happy with maintaning the status quo this season, i.e. finishing in the top 4, I think if someone offered me the same position as last season, I will snatch their hands off.... Let the 2 manc clubs fight for the title! I think we face the the fight of our lives to stay in the top 4. Then again what do I know, I have made the same predictions for the past 3-4 seasons (saying we will drop out of the top4 blah blah)....... The only worry is that, I have seen many names from the now defunct 606 board who are usually optimistic Wengerites, predicting armegeddon!

By that logic you don't have the right to tell him to stop either.

Even Barca have bought outside to supplement their "Internal Solutions" and they have better "Internal Solutions" than us......The youth experiment will continue to fail unless we incorporate experience and quality with them. Manure did this and went onto dominate English football. Wenger seems to ingnore this for some strange reason.....

  11. Agree with Lazarus.

Internal Solutions are only a part of the solution. We all know Arsene Wenger is devoted to his little baby but there have been times over these latter months when he has spoken about augmenting the team. Wish it was quicker though. If we were to rely primarily on Internal Solutions then we could be struggling to get into the Top 4. I think 4th place is no great shakes since it requires us to qualify for the group stages of the CL. Yet another unnecessary hurdle IMHO. The board no doubt sees this in terms of receipts at the gate.

Wenger is heading down the same road he did at Monaco, he was laughed out of there with his so called 'youth policy', the irony is it needn't come to that, he knows full well that experienced players win things but he see's no fun in that now, he's just trying to prove the world wrong and it isn't working.

I wonder what has happened to Monaco since Wenger left... or as you say "he was laughed out...." If memory serves me right are they not playing in the second tier of French football? We have to be careful what we wish for....

We don't need to spend big, why must it be only spend big or spend a little .. where is the middle ground.

I'd be happy with at least 3 x £15m purchases, got to be better than 1 x £45m purchase.

Promoting from within is what every club should strive to achieve, but you cannot neglect buying in experience either. When the mighty Barca are buying in experience you know that promoting from within only is NOT the solution.

So where do you get that experienced quality additions for £15 eh? If a league 1 player (with bags of potential) is going 12million? I think the market has sussed Prof Wenger out..... More importantly citeh are also in on the act as well, they are allegedly planning for the future and they are playing top dollar for youth, Ballotelli would have been ideal for us, I think the sort of money Citeh are paying him makes him unemployable by anyone!

My point was Wengers 'youth policy' took Monaco from the heights of European football to the depths of the French leagues and the danger is he could do the same to us. He left them no legacy of success.

The irony is it needn't be that way, a blend of youth and expeience stands a much better chance of success.

How do you figure that Wenger is to blame for Monaco not being as good now as they were when he was there? They won two league trophies and got to a UCL final in the ten years after he left. There were ten managers between Wenger leaving and Monaco getting relegated, so to say he is culpable for their current woes is ridiculous.
