Bolton will provide the same 3 points if we win on Saturday. These are the type of games we have drawn too many of in the past. Would love to see a decisive win for us - sets the tone before the int break & 7 points from 9 a good solid start. Cmon red men!
We do have a good record against Bolton but you are right, these are the games we must win if we are to challenge for top 4. Pretty excited for this game though. My first of the season.
I'm in France on hols so may struggle to watch - I managed to find a sports bar in Bordeaux to watch the arsenal game only to find it was on Canal+ their version of ITV!! Doh!
Haven't we beaten them home and away for the last few seasons? We lost to West Ham and West Brom last season when we were flying under Kenny. These are the types of games everybody who doesn't win the league has too many of every season. When we only lost two games people said, "Ah, but we drew too many." Well, duh, we didn't win the league so of course there were too many. But we scored nine goals more than anybody else that season so it's a bogus correlation to say, "Rafa was too defensive and played for draws." Utd had an inspired run-in and there was nothing we could do about that, even though we still had His Majesty the Godhead Alonso.
Anyway you look at it Liverpool should be beating Bolton at home. No offence to Bolton but it should be very one sided.
how we win is also important. Although i will be happy with 3 point if Lucas pokes in an injury time winner but I would like a more confident approach and more interplay between the team. No silly mistakes at the back will also help
I thought I read that Bolton were worth 4 points away on a cold rainy January early morning fixture- but otherwise were only worth 2 points to beat. Y'know the old stereotype they say about every foreigner... "He's good but I can't seem him performing well on a cold rainy January early morning fixture" ... surely that means they are worth more in January.
I think we've developed a bit of momentum, the win at the Emirates will have helped without a shadow of a doubt. The win on wednesday will definitely have helped motivate the supporting cast, ie the non regular starters that if a chance arises that they can step in and do a job. A win is a must and if we can win tomorrow thats 7 points out of 9 and thats really impressive, as it took 9 games last season to get 7 points. It will definitely have proven that we have come a long way in 12 months.
Still early days but if we carry on like we 'should' be doing, no reason to not be there or thereabouts come xmas time.Especially since we dont have midweek games, players should definately be up for every match.
That's how United won most of their titles. How we win is fun for us at the time. But merely winning is what will keep us satisfied all night long.
Agreed. If we don't get anything this weekend, the Arsenal resuly will probably be a bit pointless. We need to keep getting results and keep the momentum going!
There is a load of nonsense, that Kenny can't handle the pressure of an entire season when the heat is on, and that when he did well it was because he overachieved as he wasn't expected to achieve anything. The fact is, he's a very good manager. I've also heard stuff that ''Kenny Dalglish never built a team''. Well thats more uneducated bull****. He built the Blackburn side that won the title in 1995, okay it took him from 1991 until 1995 to do so. Look where they were in 1991 when he took over, they were in the nether regions of the second division. What they mean is, he had to spend money to win the title. What manager has won titles without spending money in England? If anyone can name one, please do so. Liverpool are on the way up and I expect them to rattle a few cages, there may be a few ups and downs, but in my opinion, Liverpool and Arsenal are heading in opposite directions.
Yup When you wake up Sunday morning it's never as good to think we played well but lost as to think...we got another 3 points despite not playing brilliantly (like 3 points from The Emirates). We should be a bit more settled tomorrow after last weekends result and even though Bolton have played well first two games if we keep the ball moving at pace (and on the deck) we should have too much quality so fingers crossed for a good performance
Billy Elpistolero Exactly. If we move at speed and keep the ball on the floor and keep the same tempo for 90 minutes, something we didn't do against Sunderland, we should have too much for them. Had we kept the same tempo for the entire 90 minutes against Sunderland, we surely would have won. I'm sure Kenny will drill it into the players to not make the same mistakes again.
Lets hope so mate yeah. I do think we're still inconsistent from one half to the next (a problem we've had for years) but I really can see that having more strength on the bench will help even this out in future. Plenty of games throughout the season we will have to dig deep and push for late goals so the more we can work teams over in the first hour of a game the better chance we'll have to snatch late winners when required...pass and move the Liverpool groove
Hopefully we can get an unbeaten run going and just collect results. At the moment, performances don't bother me, The performance itself last week didn't bother me, I've seen us play better than that and lose. It was the result that counted. Although there will be very few sides that will go to the emirates and have more posession than Arsenal. That is one bet that you will not lose thats for sure. When the side finally gels, and it will gel, the performances will improve, and I reckon it won't be long before we give someone a tonking. October 15th would be a nice day to give someone a tonking.
Indeed it would yeah...lets start by tonking Bolton tomorrow and worry about tonking them lot later Come on The Reds
