I certainly wish him all the best. He clearly wasn't the right man for the job, whether it was down to players or ability but as a person he's been a stand up bloke and doesn't deserve the abuse he gets.
How many likes is one allowed for a post! No-one deserves the vilification handed out by some of our fans at times.
Looks like Silva is going to Benfica. Don’t blame him, but he’d be my first choice. Can’t say I’m at all excited about Hughes.. Anyone more interesting on the ‘possible’ list?
Haven't read through too much of the thread but maybe wee Gordie may like to take the reigns Err he does still have a place at Warsash doesn't he......Don't think he sold it. Might be just the fella for a couple of months.............We certainly will need a motivator. In some ways Im not surprised by the clubs actions...in others I am. It was only 8/9 weeks ago they were shouting how Mopo had the boards full backing and that they had confidence he would turn things around.....but how the heck is it that they couldn't see what we the fans could? I truly hope the owners have kicked this boards ass somewhat...........Not only Mopo should go but it is time perhaps a couple of the board members should consider getting the hell out of it. Hopefully then we get some people in that will back the manager properly................................
Wish him well but he was unfortunately in the wrong place. Feel so mighty relieved though. Fans fighting among themselves, team totally tuned out, come what may the change desperately needed to happen. Next chapter....
Well, I was wrong again. I thought the board would never sack Puel, and I thought they would never do this. This was exactly the situation we were supposed to never get ourselves into. I definitely didn't wake up feeling better, and that was before I read the new manager thread. This is a critical challenge now, followed by an even bigger one in the extra-short summer transfer window.
The first mistake was sacking Puel...he deserved a second season and given a few signings may have done well. I don't see us as flirting with relegation on his watch. A lot of fans made that mistake as well. The board obviously thought Pellegrino was a good fit and they gave him time (definitely too much time) because they possibly believed in him still and didn't want to knee jerk like other clubs. And remember that managers get good pay outs. They made a couple of errors....how many on here have never made a mistake and then stuck with it too long. It's what is done from here on that will prove decisive.
I’d suggest the first mistake was hiring Puel. He was never the right guy for the job either, though he was considerably better than MP2.
But then some might say not giving Ron what he wanted was a mistake, so you can keep going back further and further. The board didn't invite these problems, and they tried solving them, but they have made some bad decisions. Paying Ron £6M a year would have been another big mistake.
I don't think RK wanted to extend his contract....he might have seen out the next season, but he already had his coat on.
It was said when Everton offered £6M, he asked if we wanted to match the deal & him sign on for longer. Les immediately grabbed the corner of the carpet & pulled with furious anger!
Didn't know that. Subsequently that may have seemed a mistake (though he didn't last long at Everton), but I can understand why Les would react that way. Kreuger may not have done so... being more of a pragmatist, but the footballing side is left with LR.
He's done a lot right....remember he was here during the Cortese era....and Nicola was definitely not the football man. Although we may not have liked last season from a style point of view, it was pretty good if we are honest....so this season is the first seriously bad one. Too many fans act as if they never make mistakes and fail to recognise that sometimes things just don't work out. We must avoid throwing the baby out with the bath water....Les needs to be under scrutiny, but you don't suddenly become an idiot after many successful seasons. It is what he does now that is our major concern and if he redeems his reputation with the fans. And remember that, although he is the face of the football at St Marys, he is also only one member of the board.
