Hughes would be ok in my opinion. He might never have hit the heights as a manager but he’s never been a total failure. And he knows a thing or two about centre forward play.

I would add my comments in a similar vein. He was poorly dealt with received precious little public support from the Board, and the players need to take a good hard look in the mirror tomorrow morning and ask themselves a few questions about their part in this whole shambles. I think he was a decent bloke who did not lash out at other people or officials about things but in his way did the job in the manner he thought was best. Clearly he misjudged the way in which the PL works these days and so has paid the price, though financially the Club will pay a lot of money fro this mess. Hence,the biggest target for severe criticism from me is aimed at the Board, they failed to to find the right person after botching up the last appointment and will probably find it even tougher now to implant a real long term replacement. If they prove me wrong then I'll be delighted, but past form indicates a weakness in the appointment and retention of good managers at SFC..
He'd be another one who'd have to be short-term only, given that he recently signed a new deal with Ireland (whilst, apparently, rejecting 18 month contracts at Everton and Stoke - for being too long to be able to combine the job with Ireland, and too short to be willing to resign from Ireland)
