I think Strachan would give a monumental lift. To be perfectly honest, I don't think there's too much logic to it. And certainly no long-term value to it. He's been out of club football, let alone just English football, for too long. He also doesn't have a CV of keeping fire-fighting relegation. Ten games ago I would have utterly laughed at the suggestion. But if you want someone to come in and immediately get the fans onside for eight games (because of his history with us), as a total roll of the dice short term appointment, I think he fits the bill. (But if Silva wants the job, Silva gets the job. No question of that in my mind.)
This appointment needs some money behind it. Pay a good manager what's needed to get him in, promise a hefty kitty over the summer too. Tuchel, Silva, Villas Boas type to lift things then hopefully kick on
Ahem...Gerardo Martino It won’t be, but.... Suspect it’ll be a short term, Strachan type. Any manager worth his salt may want to wait and see if we survive.
Thank god for that. Still, its hard to reconcile the fact that the agony is finally over and yet we are still directionless. this should unquestionably have happened months ago yet in the interim we haven't made a decision on his replacement or haven't managed to convince a succession of managerial candidates to take over. What the hell is that about? Hard not to imagine that this is the end of our woes and not just another step down a ****ty road. Right now I hope the players are supportive of the decision.
Or they can have a clause in their contract allowing them to walk if we get relegated. Personally, I think we are still an attractive club. Not as much as we were after Koeman left, but could still tempt a good manager to come in.
