We only want the best for the club we support Rod.one massive let down the jan window, subs, set up. In management the bucks stops at the top.
I’m happy with my club being 7th in a highly competitive league with a semi final appearance under their belt. If you want to support a club that guarantees success maybe you should be supporting the City from Manchester
He was also responsible for the good run before Christmas , the fact is we are in with a chance of the play offs this late in the season & have beaten 1 of the Manchester teams , not looked out of place against the other and reached the semifinals of a major cup competition & yet you believe we haven't had a successful season and feel we should look to change the manager ? , I realise we all want what is best for the club we support, I just think your expectations at this point are unrealistic RR.
Conversely we beat teams earlier in the season that would have thought they should have beaten us easily, that's football, I for one , this season , have seen some of the best football at ashton gate for many a year. Whilst obviously I'm disappointed by our recent run , I'm also realistic enough to be able to see the bigger picture , which is, we are much further forward this year than I expected, & although unlikely , we still aren't out of it completely yet. What we need right now is for everyone , including the fans to get behind the manager . COYR
Ok I was an advocate of Johnson out last year for in my mind obvious reasons, he stayed and times roll on but we are in the top 10 of our league,we beat 3 premier clubs in a cup competition and reached the semi finals, there is no prospect of relegation looming, we have been given stability, players with a pride in our club and have signed contracts to prove it, we are attracting interest from around the planet in our club, all of this under Lee Johnson wisdom and planning. I have always said I support the club not individuals but this bloke deserves credit for our progress under his leadership and I give it to him whole heartedly. The future is in the lap of the gods and Bristol Ciy FC will always be my first choice, managers change and I've reached the age of contentment. Up the City.
as I have said on numerous occasions, and has been echo'd by others, the season is 46 games there is no difference in winning 8 of your first and 8 of your last and drawing or losing 26 games in middle ...to winning 1 drawing one losing one ... points wise pretty much the same.... the only difference is the expectation level! A good target for us this season was 68 plus points.... 74 would have been nice we will see what we get a finish in top 12 = good top10 very good top 8 excellent top 6 unexpected...................
SL does have the finances but FFP dictates to how much we pay players hence why we’ve got a lot lower wage cap than most of the others in this league. You talk about the finances as if SL should just keep paying out of his money and not worry about it. People like SL don’t make a fortune and then give it all away just to make people like you happy. You’ve told us on here that you’ve done ok for yourself, how would you like to donate more than your annual season ticket price to the club? Say an extra 10k a year which will pay probably Flints wages Monday to Thursday for one week. Brighton and Burnley went up and WBA before them by not spending a fortune but by finding young hungry players who want to work for their clubs whole heartedly. Lots of clubs have spunked the cash and either gone up or when they get there. How many times do we hear of clubs that have been in the Prem are now in problems. Even Cardiff (not an invitation Cardiff fans to this thread) had a short transfer embargo after one year in the Prem. It’s not a great manager you want it’s one that will spend all the money just to keep you happy. As at the moment we’ve one that does go all out spending money, we’ve one who wants to build long term project which might not take us up this or even next season. A manager who wants when we do get there with a team that’s ready, rather than a complete rebuild when we get there. Like people have said if you want instant success then support a Manchester team. Or you could follow your hero of manager and travel across the bridge, after all you will only be paying the tolls up until January then it’s free. To be honest and tell you the truth, I’m starting to think maybe staying in the championship winning a few drawing a few and losing a few is more appealing than being the whipping boys in the Prem, losing most weeks.
Rod look at the wasted wages and signings The players that arrived in January what a waste of wages, and the lad we did sign is not getting much game time.Engval,Steele,Woodrow,Ellison, not getting game time. For me Jan 2018 was the month to have done some proper business and get the club to the prem. Sadly this did not happen, will another chance come along in the near future, time will tell.
You do know we can only play 11 players at a time. Steele was bought as cover on a free transfer. Woodrow was also bought in as cover due to the striker shortage we had at the start of the season. Engvall (yawn) and Elliason are youngsters., they are 4 and 3 years respectively younger than Bobby Reid. Where was Bobby Reid at their ages and he had the benefit of being home bred. If we had pushed the boat out in Jan 2018 no matter how many times you say it there was no guarantee of promotion being achieved and if it had failed then we would have run the risk of falling foul of FFP, also being lumbered with players on highly inflated wages and possibly an upset squad annoyed at those wages being offered and squad harmony was one of the main reasons why we were in that position in the first place
Who was going to pay for this “proper business” you? Every signing is a gamble! Fergie singed Ralph Milne. So even the best make mistakes on transfers. I try and stay away from Man City and Chelsea players on fantasy league simply because you’ve no idea who Guardiola is going to pick. Not every player has to play every game. Diony on paper was a great purchase even you was chomping at the bit. Kent was Barnsley’s player of the year last year. Walsh was bought like Elliasson for the future like we bought Brownhill and O’Dowda look at their season last year compared to this. You’re like a spoilt little child who thinks you know everything, but proved on here you really are stupid. Grow up you clown.
Injuries are part of it and what the squad is for. The players Mr Johnson has brought in/ returned have changed the teams style. The players Mr Johnson has brought in/ returned have not improved the teams results. I fear Mr Johnson will think the playing of two lumps up front, banging it long to create a platform will be viewed as progress.
OH DEAR don't agree so throw you toys out the pram.Debate yes I'm here for that, but you have to admit it has gone petong.
RR you sound like a salesman who is armed with a book of 10,001 things to say ! last season you were one of the doubters, and pretty voiciferous... SL MADE A STATEMENT... we are going to follow the plan we think it will work but will take time... the biggest endorsement of that was to be able to lose 8 games on the trot and stand by the manager. The plan is still in place and if we finish in top 10 then so far it is a success. We needed to reinforce positions that were lacking or potentially could be . the transfer windows have altered the way business can be done, and forces teams to be careful on whether to under or oversubscribe to cover .. all my life I have lived by the motto better to have and not want than to want and not have, materially this can be a bit of a mega clear out every now and again, but over the years has paid off!
Where have I thrown my toys out the pram? I’ve not put it out that the management, the training, the players are all failing, that was you. You’ve loved it when it was going well and praised all of the above but that’s because you supported the club. But I’ve noticed you’re waiting to unleash the “get him out thread” I’ve even noticed your daft comments on Facebook. It’s like you’re trying to drum up support in your get him out campaign. Why can’t you accept that with the injuries we’ve had topped with the three suspensions is not helping the club. Yes Diony is not that good, but most of us could see that he was only a trial and stop gap until Diedhiou and Djuric we’re both fit.
I agree ROD, but it does frustrate me that he keeps using Diony, or more to the point , it frustrates me he doesn't use Engval, I realise Diony only has until the end of the season to show us what he can do, but I sense Engval does too and he hasn't really been given a chance .
I agree about Engvall, but to be honest there must be something we are not privy to as I suspect if it’s down to just don’t like the man, then someone would have a say in it. For all we know unless we go to training sessions he could be an arrogant dick head who won’t be told. Diony for me is trying to resuscitate his career from last season. His parent club saw something to splash €9 million on him. IMO Diony is trying to hard and rushing things, but that is only my opinion. It’s just a shame he joined and flopped at the point when the knifes were being sharpened.
I take your point about Diony, ide however prefer we gave our own players the chance to shine, similarly with Eliason over Kent . I guess that's why I'm just a punter and Lee is a head coach, easy to say these things when you don't have to stand or fall by decisions made.
I’m hoping Elliasson will be like O’Dowda and kick on next season. Don’t see why he’s not used over Kent now as he is to me the biggest disapointment. Watching him last season, he really shined in Barnsley’s team but with us he’s just a headless chicken. His body language on his debut sort of showed he wasn’t interested in being here, but I thought give him time to settle.
Spot on regards Kent, that first game he was not interested, the rest is spot on Headless chicken and no end product . The lad from Everton is no where near Smith or Packs standard. LJ said he was only going to bring better players in. Disappointing signings. I really like Duric and Taylor playing together early doors. Those two have been a massive loss I do agree. So much expectation after a wonderful 2017,just being flushed down the loo.
In his defence if I remember correctly he only arrived the day before , so had no time to settle in. I have been more disappointed with his performances since. My take on it is, our strength is team work , individuals who work for , and make decisions that will have the best result for the team, Kent , however, as with most loanees, doesn't ,his main objective is not the team , but himself. For example, he'd rather take on players himself than pass to a team mate who maybe in a better position. We need team players not individuals, that's why ide rather we use our own players where possible . Tammy was the exception to the rule as he seemed to genuinely care , most don't , they are more interested In their own performance. That's my perception anyhow.
