Just watched a film from 2006...The Prestige with Christian Bale,Hugh Jackman and Michael Caine. Thought it was very good kept you guessing .
Expanse is good for 6 episodes... after that it's just general sci fi It's why Luv hates it...promised much
Bridge...you'll like it. Mad Max ... not sure...its marmite ...i loved it.. Watch the original of let the Big short... ok Drive... Under... I don't like horror anymore but we'll made Gone girl.... overrated.. .but Sunday show Boy.....mweh
Started watching Altered Carbon and now up to episode 3,as been said very nipply. You deffo have to pay attention when watching this to understand what's going on but it's growing on me.
Bridge of Spies - 7.5/10 Mad Max: Fury Road 7/2/10 What Happened to Monday 6.5/10 Let the Right One In 7/10 The Big Short 7.5/10 Drive 8.5/10 Under the Skin 7.5/10 Gone Girl 8/10 Boyhood 7/10 As far as that list goes they are all worth a watch and I'd work through them all Drive is the best of the bunch.
Some of it just doesn't fit, it's almost a brilliant Sci Fi concept but it lets itself down so often with some poor acting and some terrible sets that keeps it small scale and then now and then it's spectacular. Altered Carbon hit the balance, it looked great and the performances were good, the story a little plain but it worked.
You have to be in the mood for Mad Max and shut yourself away turn up the volume and just enjoy it for what it is which is a big visual film that's all about the non stop action. Not usually my type of film I enjoyed it the 2nd time around as I knew what was coming, 1st time I was waiting for a story to kick in and there simply isn't one.
All worth a watch but nothing brilliant other than Drive which I really liked. Under the Skin is an odd little film, Scarlet Johanssen must be friends with the director or something as it's a small independant film but she brings a lot to the role, it's strange and haunting I really liked it.
Dune deserves a decent film-version. Although to be honest half the books occur inside the characters heads so it's a challenging book to convert to film for anyone. You can't make a good Dune film without straying from the books a little to make it more screen-friendly.
They'd be better as a tv series, like GoT. Longer scope, don't have to cram it all in a 2hr film. Its why the Syfy series is better than the film, although it'd didn't have the budget needed
I know before the first disastrous film was released they had originally planned it to be split into two films. That might have worked better... It's a long novel with a lot of love to absorb for a film. It would be nice to see a "GoT budget" series with a good crew.
Things like GoT and Westworld have changed tv imo (started with West Wing and 24), they prove you can make film quality stories but with the longevity of a tv series. And as with GoT what where previously thought impossible for cinema can be made. Dune is in the same bracket, its scope is too big for film, you start leaving things out, putting things in to shorten and then it makes no sense, like Lynch's version. Also GoT ends next year, HBO will need to replace it with something, although that could be a GoT prequel.
I agree, it was The Sopranos for me. That was the first big long lasting series I watched and I loved the long term story set over a number of seasons. GOT is the game changer now and to a lesser degree True Detective and Big Little Lies where we are getting big screen stars doing a one off series because they know how popular they can be.
Just watched Baywatch. Was much better than i thought and pretty funny. Plus the 3 birds in it are all fit. 9/10
