@gunnersurprisepeople You'd pay £17 million? Thank god your not our Manager! Koscielny is definitely the better player. Kosc is good on the ball, has great distribution, is quick, covers other defenders well, has a strong tackle, good in the air. He is just a fantastic player. Kept Messi in his pocket last season as well. As for the bid being too low - defenders go for a lower amount than attacking players anyway, he is in his last year of his contract, and we are not Man City. £10 million is the max we should spend on Cahill.
I agree the oxocube signing seems an interesting one - lots of cash to be spending so he better be good. But i think it is clear that this offer has gone in for Cahill with the view of making a further bid but to ensure we don't overpay for the player. We may end up waiting 'till January for him if Wenger and the board feel like being extra tight with the cash.
and before some numpty pipes up about initial fees rising - none of you know how Arsenal would pay for any player at all so if the fee is £12m take it as £12m not £6m plus rises.
I see what you are saying .. but this ploy only works if the selling club need to sell. Coyle doesn't need to sell and doesn't want to sell so I can't see this tactic working at all. He has named his price and won't go below it .. why should he ??
I was being sarcastic there mate with 17m, thought it was obv.. That said United paid 30m for Rio years ago look at the service and titles they have got from him! You have to buy quality sometimes, we paid over 10m for Kos he would want to be good but he is average and does not command his box, does not win his 50/50 headed clearences enough but has decent pace to counter that. Avergage to good. Answer this would Kos make Chelsea/United or City even and the answer for me it not a hope. That should be a benchmark. We have shopped in Lidl for the last number of years and our trophy cabinet reflects that. We were told b4 the fab & Nasri sales that we have x amounts to spend and we have brought in only one player that will help the team realistically this year in Gervinho and even he was haggled down on the last year of contract. We are not running a business academy, the time is closing up on us having any hope of winning something this years. Without 2 -3 major signings we can forget about any hopes of winning anything straight away. I am a big Wenger fan always have been but we are at a critical juncture here, no more can the medicore be tolerated as it has been for some time. Look at the state of our left back situation, Sagna having to play there becuase we have NO COVER. For a team like Arsenal that is frankly disgraceful.
Because Cahill is in the last year of his contract and has said he wants to leave for a bigger club. So Coyle has the choice to sell now, sell in january or lose him on a free next summer. He is basicaly in the same position we where for Nasri except it's penny pinching Arsenal and not Cash Rich City that are making the bid.
Koscielny is highly underated by most - he is an absolutely fantastic defender and fits our system perfectly. I'm quite happy with TV/Kosc as a CB pairing. Cahill would be cover and so the bank will not be broken for him. As for additions that will help the team this year - Gervinho (as you mentioned), Campbell (who will make you jizz in your pants before the end of the season), Miyaichi (real talent - he will make an impact this season) and players like Frimpong are making the step up to the senior squad as well. I do agree we need 2-3 quality signings to really be pushign for sivlerware this season though. Please give us Kaka, Hazard and Vertonghen.
I have seen Vids of Campbell and looks good for the future fine along with Ryo. I am all with the 3 signings would be great. Gibbs though for me does not cut it and LB, what about Baines? pay them a fee and get in a terrific LB which we have not had since Cashley as Clichy was a liability at the best of times. It's the simple things that are not being addressed which infuriates most fans. We are lucky in that we have a great keeper now but how long were we crying out for that! Will be have to wait for another 4-5 years till a decent left back can come though that is not made of glass? Thats what worries me and with current set up we will struggle massively. As I see it we have till the end of the transfer window to make the obvious changes and signings, sure we may have to pay a little more now but it would be downright astonishing if it does not happen and Wenger will fall on his sword later in the season if he continues with his stubborness.
I don't think it is Wenger who makes the bid or should I say haggle. Someone within the club obviously does, but don't think it is Wenger. I would imagine, he would identify the targets and it is down to the money men to make the deal happen, I am sure the same applies to player's contracts. Wenger is however guilty of a massive cover-up, I think he out the Board, all this talk we have this to spend, but we have to improve the team blah blah drives me potty. I am addicted to the BBC Gossip transfer page, (shame on me) slowly dawning on me that we might not be signing anyone afterall! Like someone already posted, we lost Clichy to citeh, Gibbs to injury (don't think Gibbs is an adequate replacement), we are faffing around playing Sagna out of position!
@PNEawf Kaka i don't expect to happen (but i'd love it if it did lol), Hazard i think we may well sign, but might be next season rather than this season - hopefuly the club are doing something to get this player in though. Vertonghen is in my wishlist due to his versatility - he can cover CB, LB and DM - all positions we need depth in. Cahill is not better than Kosc. Kosc is underated and a beast of a player. We will see him and TV gel together as a great partnership this season. We really do need to be bringing in a creative player in the middle of the park though - someone who can orchestrate our attacks and dictate play. Ryo and Campbell will shock alot of people imo.
Just imagine Robin V Persie gets injured! We will in an absolute nightmare position of having to play either of those 2 hopeless clowns Chamak or Bendy. He is the only thing keeping hope of us scoring goals this season, we need cover there shockingly bad, please God get us a striker as otherwise we are just giving up and becoming also rans but that point may have passed years ago. No doubt we will be back in the bargain bin again. Even Bellamy on loan or free would be an addition of strength. You cannot expect youngster like those to come in and str8 away have us challenging for the title which is where we should be aiming! This is Arsenal we are talking about not Spurs.
Campbell is the answer to your striker question. (although i wouldn't say no to anotehr new striker )
I truly hope your right! but how many people thought Vela was the next great thing, Youtube is all about highlights and proves nothing. We need players for this season to do it now, great that these lads are on board but failure to bring in proven quality will put our chances to bed for a 7th year and I am feeling no optimism and the season has only started. A pasting or even some more injuries at Old trafford which is perfectly plausible and we will be in the worst position starting a season I care to remember and thats not from a table standing point of view though that will be equally bad.
Good point, Gervinho off to Africa Nations cup in January and RVP injured..... Maybe Walcott can cover? He has said he would fancy his chance!
We have brought through so many great hopes Jay Thomas, Vela, Lansbury, Gibbs (jury still out)Bendy. None of them seem up to the grade at the big end of things. We need to start adding prove class to the great mix of youth we have, Sadly Wenger will never realise this or stubbornly does not want to and that will only bring more misery on us for the season ahead.
Campbell is a full international and looks alot better than Vela, Bendtner or JET did. I have watched as much footage as i can find of the lad and all i can say is he will be quality.
I think Walcott can play upfront, but lead the line on his own! no chance gets pushed off the ball and cannot hold the ball up at all. He would be useful in a 4-4-2 but not in our current set up. There are good options out there for small money seeing as we seem to have none or won't spend it! Even Shane Long would have been a great addition, pace, finishing and strenght but sadly he had an Irish passport instead of a French one. 5-6 mill may also have been considered a massive outlay for us on a player who scored 25 champoinship goals last year......... does not take a genius to do the simple things and provide cover but as long as we have money in the bank sure it that not what pleases the board. Good boy Arsene, put down your calculator now said Stan.
How can you come to such a BOLD conclusion, when the lad has not even played 1minute in the League. There is the question of adaptabilty, acclamitisation to the language, weather etc etc. He is away from home coming to foreign country/the best league in the world (allegedly!) and you say he is a lot better than Bendy and co.....
Have to agree mate, and how can we expect him to be a major factor in a title push in his first season! All good possibly for the future but THIS WILL BE Wenger's last season if we do not make serious progress. How long more can the mediocre be tolerated. Although given our boards attitude we will be delighted to scrape top 4 and make some cash for them.
