TO say that there are no candidates out there is not credible. Any decent club would have highlighted potential successors in keying coaching and playing staff well in advance of any appointments. I am sure we know who future candidates might be. Whereas I can appreciate that many of these coaches might not be immediately available, a short term appointment until the end of the season is an immediate priority. I just think that we get someone in like Jason Dodd who loves the club and see what they can do,. There must be plenty of coaches with links to Saints who could do a decent job in the next two months. It is hardly possible that they will be less successful or less inspirational than Pellergrino.
Had to google him - he won the European cup - TWICE !!! Anyhoo I'm not here on behalf of the Gary Birtles fan club Given MP should know something about what he's doing given his background I'm now onto the theory thathe's been told to play this way We have always said our teams through the Academy to the 1st team should play the same way I believe he has been told to play a 4231 passing game DESPITE the fact that we don't have the players for it and you DON'T do it when you are in an EPL relegation scrap I keep thinking he can't be stupid so he must be under instructions Now if I'm right then the next guy has to do the same and we're still crap and no decent manager would agree to join under those instructions anyway But I may be talking out my
Alright, we're desperate now, and willing to try anything. Report to St Marys, 8.00am Monday. And bring your boots (those old brown things that look like coal miner's boots with studs on. They'll do). LR.
I seem to remember MP saying around the time of his appointment he would adapt his style of play and tactics to suit the quality of our players and the set up of the opposition. I was actually impressed and looking forward to this season. Makes you wonder if his hands are tied as we've witnessed the same old predictable crap from the very first game of the season.... Oh. I forgot, Wolves in the cup with 3 at the back... That was comical
The club had started to lose its way long before Pellegrino. Selling our best players and replacing them well ws going to falter eventually. A team that needed goals badly, spunked nearly 20m on a guy that doesn't score much. This purchase was requested by a manager already flirting with the sack and worse still signed of by a board that now looks more incompetent than ever. back to basics for me....Long For the chaos factor and Austin or gabbi for the scraps.
The way Fulham are playing, they could get promoted. Wolves are beginning to look catchable and vulnerable.
To me it will be three from 4, the two we have talked about, Villa and Cardiff. When we look at the managers of Villa and Cardiff there is definitely a case of saying "horses for courses". They will get teams promoted but are then found wanting in the PL. If SFC go down, do Saints get that kind of manager or someone different. I have heard Potter being talked about.
I think its just boilerplate. They probably would have said the same whoever was appointed, they just needed to insert the right name and then press send. it actually sounds quite positive when you read it again. Boy how wrong has it gone
I actually think you have something in what you say. I was thinking the same. If you look at the last 3 managers I have been to games when a lot of fans have been annoyed by the incessant side ways and back ward passing we do. I think under Koeman we had the luxury of players that could do that, but we don't have now.
Possession football is the way the game is taught, coached and played now. The problem, as you allude to, is not that we try to keep the ball. It's that our passing and movement isn't very good, at this level. Our possession stats were probably lower under Koeman than any other manager in the last eight years though. His sides were happy to gamble with possession, relying on being very well organised defensively, with players who could threaten on the break. Either way, you need the personnel to get results.
