His financial value is not directly related to his value on the pitch. He might have given us an extra dimension yesterday, but tbh we've seen him struggle to break down that type of defence just as often as anyone else.

 

I don't think we are going to be higher in the league with Coutinho. NO we have not missed him.

 

It is amazing how with time we lose tract of a player’s value to us once he’s left. How many times did he rescue us with those pot shots ( which I am sure you didn’t mean to deride ) ? He has on many occasions given us 3 points when we were destined to get one. He has created many chances for the likes of Mane and Firmino. Now he suddenly was not worth that much. So were Barcelona stupid to spend that huge amount on him?

 

If we had of played him they would have man marked him with elbows.

And we already know how weak the ref was.

 

It's also amazing only time coutinho gets mentioned is when we lose.

It's a team game, and I think that deifying a player is just as bad as scapegoating one. He may well have come up with the goods, but he might have been frustrated just as much as the rest. That happened often enough too.
Value - do you really think he was worth that? He's a good player, but there are many of them, and because he fetched several times more than say, Salah, doesn't make him that many times better a player, or any more likely to unlock a tight defence.
Things happen, and saying if we had Coutinho then it would have been different is pure speculation, and utterly pointless.
The bottom line is, he's gone, and the sky hasn't fallen down, so let's get over it and move on.

 

I agree with many of your points Saint. I was only answering MITO’s question and whether we have missed him and/or should have replaced him. Not Klopp’s fault if no one was available at the time. But no doubt in my mind that IF we want to progress and challenge for the title then we have to spend Coutinho’s windfall. This squad may good enough for top 4 but not if we want to chase the major trophies.

the only real thing i am amazed about is people saying why didn't vvd follow lukaku around. Its the absolute basics of the game. If one striker can wander over on to another position and drag the cb out following him players will walk through us.

Lukaku was always going to pull onto lovren.. if we played lovren and klavan then the tactic might well have been dominate klavan in air. thats just what happened.

 

I rarely get pissed off with games nowadays and this one was no different. However, I was very disappointed, more so than usual. Mainly because I'd convinced for a while (weeks!) that we'd win and obviously we didn't.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter too much imo. If we put another run together like we've just had then we'll be fine. In fact, in that form we could still get second imo.

 

We don’t want people to accuse us of delusion do we ?. In that form? I think we’ll all be happy with 4th. I too thought we had a good chance of a win but I am always weary of a in-match tactical battle between Klopp and Mourinho. To win we had to score the first goal and make the game more open.

 

Lukaku isn’t intelligent enough to do that. And if he then wants to go play in the lb or rb area then you let him go. If he wins a header out there then fine.
