"diligent selection process" = employing an Argentinian manager from La Liga, whose first name is Mauricio and whose surname starts with "P" and ends with "O" and who was an international CB.
It would take a level of remarkable stubbornness and arrogance to just allow this to continue. Les Reed: “hold my beer”.
I'm in total dismay! Last season felt like a step backwards and this season is a complete disaster, The black box has turned into a black hole.... The Southampton way has turned into the Southampton woe! The championship is looking odds on and i fear there will be no way back with the current board. It appears they had a little honeymoon period after the departure of Cortese, his plan was still in action for a while. We need another like him at the helm as LR and RK have clearly lost the plot! SOS... Save our saints!
"Mauricio Pellegrino said: “I am really happy to become the new coach of Southampton Football Club. The club has a great reputation for having a strong and stable structure, *competing in the Premier League* and playing attractive football." All of which has rapidly disappeared within a few short months. * i'm rapidly losing hope of this too
A few years ago Les Reed wrote a coaching manual/blueprint that was meant to be the FA way to drive English football forward. He allegedly fell out with the FA because they didn’t adopt it and at that time people were shocked because in coaching circles, this manual was considered the way forward. Now with no head strong manager under him, I am wondering if Les is insisting this manual is used for the Southampton Way and the manager is hamstrung and not strong enough to stand up to Les. By all accounts this was a great manual, with exciting ideas and methods, but then again so was a whistling kettle before that bloke Taylor invented the auto switch-off kettle. I think maybe time and new methods have overtaken us and Les. I think football has moved on from Saints at the moment. That leaves us two choices. We either gamble on the next new thing, or find a horrible, stubborn old dinosaur with very old methods that might save us. I’m hoping for the former. All just me pondering, so could be complete bollox.
Never ever quite got the Les love we had on this forum a few years ago. Always reminded me of the adage of those that can't teach tells other how to teach. This seems to be our Les with his magnificent managerial record
The must win games keep coming........and going without us winning them. This season is made all the more harder after seasons of progress and establishing ourselves as a top 8 team. We are still somehow alive in this fight to stay up. We are severely wounded after yesterday, the players have 8 of the biggest games of OUR lives coming up, plus the cup. The next against west ham where a win (remember them) will put us above them. They are in complete turmoil after yesterday and this is a must win game we must make count. The traveling fans, as ever will do their bit and I hope that between now and then, there is some spark and the club will do their bit. I hope yesterdays no show hurts them as much as its hurt us.
Anyone else got that feeling that we’ll go into the City game needing to win it to stay up.... ... and then win it? . . No? Oh, ok. I’ll put these straws down.
The most damning part of yesterday and of MP was I was watching on a stream and found myself agreeing a lot with the co commentator. He was the same guy who watched the Stoke game and after about 20 minutes of yesterdays game had already identified all the faults of Saints this season in that short period of time. Was having a go at Pellegrino for not bothering to change anything and Saints in general for their possession based, do **** all style. Watched the full game and at the end the name popped up of the co commentator. Who was this insightful footballing wizard of a man who could see everything our manager couldn't? Gary Birtles. Gary ****ing Birtles has more insight into Saints than our manager does, we are ****ed.
