Scotland were better in every department
Buuut would also say that that ref did not call that match straight down the line.
Seemed to miss a lot of forward passes in particular and seemed to find everything that England did wrong very quickly. Tbf we have not looked good for a while and teams have not punished us, think we peaked to early, lot of work to be done before next WC

The girls did better on their own crowd funding it. Some one on the BBC said they had £5 million over the 4 years. Thats their budget slashed...

Looks like that someone mismanaged the budget, hence the girls getting their funding pulled with 6 months to go and the guys turning up with just one set of runners for the Sled.
£5m is a huge chunk of the total £30m winter budget. Someone has to be ****ed over that.

tbh it was functional and thats not.going to cut it as bashing up.middle.til you get annoyed then giving away silly pens and cards is not enough to win things.

England never looked like winning, looked like they went out with wrong attitude of just turn up and it's ours. Also it's about time the ill discipline was sorted out for too long now we have given too many points away with stupid penalties .It was also obvious that Hughes wasn't fit enough and Underhill needs a brain transplant.

The indiscipline and cards are just plain silly and TBH at some point someone has to just have their england career ended over them. theres plenty of fools who what could have and should have happened to already.

the game as it is now field position is crucial, never mind the leakage of easy points.

if you give sides an out you cannot build pressure. They can wait you out with the bashing up the middle game til someone gets isolated or knocks it on or whatever but they know full well if they get it in their own half they don't need to bash a long kick cos england will do something stupid and give them a pen they can kick down field.

england lost 10 mins to sin bin at crucial time in second half. The in tight bash it up the middle brain dead game they tried was ridiculous as well. scotland were creaking and all that was needed was leaders at no 9 and no 10 to drive the game.

IMO ireland are driven by thier half backs and their momentum all comes from those two.

A broken clock is right twice a day. Scotland haven't won one in ten years! It's like the 90s all over again.

Hahaha, ten years! You have no idea how sweet that is to an Englishman in Jockland. Let them have one to crow about. They've never shut up about one win in the footy in 1967.

I had withdrawal symptoms last night, missing the Olympic coverage into the wee hours. Got a bit of a crush on the commentary voice of Jackie Lockhart in the curling and not ashamed to say so.

Barney Ronay said in the Guardian that Britain was toxic for medal success. That's bollocks, we love a tryer, as evidenced by the support for Coomes and Buckland getting 11th, but it seems like the bobsleighers were let down by those around them not trying.

Whoever was in charge of the mens bobsleigh team needs sacking.
    1) why did we turn up with blades that were out of spec ,size wise.?
2)Why don't we carry a spare blades in case we have a problem with the ones fitted.? Instead we had to go and barrow a set which obviously were'nt the best set to use.
Absolutely forseable no excuses they need to get the chop.

Bash it up the middle as you put it is a genuine tactic to suck in their forwards to create space outside ,if they commit to the rucks then quick ball out to the centres and wings will gain you a lot of ground. The ball has to come QUICK though and it wasn't, the rucks weren't being cleared out quick enough. If the opposition don't commit to the rucks then it leaves it open for pick and go but only if somebody spots they ain't committing players. All in all we didn't deserve the win and have now handed the advantage to Ireland.

Indeed...pace of play at the ruck is vital. If too slow the opposition won't commit. England are far too slow recycling. They invite pressure. It will be interesting vs us as we can be a little too enthusiastic in our counter rucking although not giving away as many penalties as we used too.

Sooo hope we don't **** it up against Scotland and you beat France with bonus point .... will make it one hell of an occasion on St Paddys lol...

    Its not my point.

Its being squarely fixated as a pack on pick and go and excluding all else til you **** it up that we are seeing. they have no focus on quick ball as the focus is on retain and grind.

Hitting a ruck to clear it is vital but if you are standing there waiting to be the next smash it up the middle you are not clearing the ruck.

In the end a ruck is not what it once was. two backs can in effect form just as effective a ruck out wide as 5 forwards battering each other in the middle.

Scotland were so sure of england tactic they didn't need to throw 3 guys into the ruck itself for the ball they could focus on their ling and stopping the drives.

england then coughed it up eventually as no game plan emerged even is decent field position.

By contrast everything you said was exactly what scotland did. they looked for space.

Lets be clear. Ireland did plenty of the old bash it up the middle v wales but to do what you said. they got closer to the line due to quicker ball driven by murray and commitment to clearing rucks but they then went widish or wide to get the scores.

Wales were better on off loads and breaks but ireland absolutely trounced them bar kicking pens. given england only did ok v wales leads me to conclude that unless scotland win v ireland and england beat france in a meat grinder game this championship is already over.

Its purely a question of grand slam or not for ireland now

Ireland v scotland will be imo tight. But bonus points are deffo up for grabs.

France v england is only french pride but its going to be a tough one that england need to be a lot better in to win.

England have clearly decided that Ireland have won the Championship already, barely even trying for Tries.

One loss and all the confidence has vanished.
