I'd expect to beat them when they've got Louis Walsh on the wing. He's a full back at best

    U23s Report: Nott'm Forest 3 The Tigers 0

Goals from Arvin Appiah, Anel Ahmedhodzic and Brennan Johnson saw the Tigers' Under-23s slip to a frustrating 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the Impact Arena on Monday night.

The hosts opened the scoring on 28 minutes when Appiah beat the offside trap to latch onto Ahmedhodzic's defence-splitting pass before producing a composed finish to slot the ball past Will Mannion.

Josh Clackstone came close to levelling the scores six minutes before the break when his superb curling free-kick was heading for the top corner until Forest keeper Tim Erlandsson produced a fingertip save to divert the ball past the wrong side of the post.

However, the hosts doubled their lead just three minutes into the second half when Ahmedhodzic lost his man to meet a right-wing corner and power home an unstoppable header into the bottom corner.

Jon Beale made a triple change on the hour mark as he looked to engineer a route back into the game with Greg Luer, Billy Chadwick and Liam Edwards replacing Tom Powell, Max Sheaf and Fergus McAughtrie.

And one of the new arrivals carved out a glorious opportunity for the Tigers just five minutes later. Luer showed good strength to hold off his man on the right before sending a cross into the box towards Greg Olley, but the midfielder was off target with his diving header from eight yards.

The Tigers were beginning to get a foothold in the game at this point and were awarded a penalty 18 minutes from time when Luer was fouled inside the box by Jordan Gabriel. Robbie McKenzie stepped up to take the spot-kick but sent his effort from 12 yards high over the bar.

And to add insult to injury, Forest made certain of the points with a third goal six minutes later. Substitute Brennan Johnson drove forward down the left, advancing into the box before finding the bottom corner with a fine finish that gave Mannion no chance whatsoever.

Nottingham Forest: Erlandsson, Coveney, Preston, Hobbs (Gabriel 46), Ahmedhodzic, Stewart, Richardson (Smith 75), Charlesworth, Walters, Appiah (Johnson 56), Otim.
    Subs Not Used: Bossin, McCormick.

Hull City: Mannion, Clackstone, Yates, Hickey, McKenzie, Curry, Hamilton, Sheaf (Chadwick 60), Powell (Luer 60), Olley, McAughtrie (Edwards 60).
    Subs Not Used: Saltmer, Ritson.

Jon Beale has spoken of his delight at seeing a quartet of Academy youngsters commit their futures to the Club.

Last week saw 17-year-old Keane Lewis-Potter and 18-year-old Billy Chadwick sign their first professional contracts with the Tigers, whilst first-year professionals Robbie McKenzie and Tyler Hamilton also penned new deals to extend their stays at the KCOM Stadium.

Reflecting on the positive news, Academy Manager Beale said: "It's been a good week or so for the Academy with four of our youth products signing new contracts with the Club.

"Signing first professional contracts was a special moment for Keane and Billy and a day that I'm sure both of them will remember for a long time - and rightly so!

"In Keane's case, it's not the first time we've rewarded an Under-18 player with a professional deal before the end of his scholarship - we did the same with Brandon Fleming last year as well.

"It's great for Billy as well. Obviously, his two-year scholarship was coming to an end this season but we've rewarded him with a professional deal on the back of the progress he's made during the last two years.

"After starting the current season in the Under-18 set-up, he was rewarded for his impressive contribution with a step up to the Under-23s side, and he's handled that well, which has been pleasing to see.

"It's important for all of our current and future scholars to realise that their target should be getting a first professional deal and realising the hard work and commitment needed in order to make it happen.

"With regards to Robbie and Tyler, we're delighted that they both see their futures here.

"They've both been real stalwarts for the Under-23s in recent seasons, which has seen the side reach the Premier League Cup final and the Professional Development League National Play-Off final last year.

"Tyler is obviously now based with the first-team down at Cottingham on a daily basis and Robbie has spent an awful lot of time down there as well.

"That's great for their development and we're really pleased to see the two of them put pen-to-paper and extend their time with the Club.

"Its great for the Club to get the deals over the line as well because they're both good prospects and we've got hopes for them to come through and work their way into the first-team set-up to - potentially - play many games for the Club at senior level."

Beale is also pleased to see a pathway for graduates of the Academy to play for the Tigers' first-team, less than three years after the youth set-up made the step up to operate at Category Two level.

With the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Max Clark shining in the Sky Bet Championship this term, Beale feels that the duo establishing themselves in the senior side shows that there is a route for the Club's Academy youngsters to progress through the ranks.

"In fairness, that's one thing we've always had here - certainly during my time at the Club," he added.

"I'd like to think everyone involved has helped to create a clear pathway for our young players to develop and be involved in the first-team set-up if deserving of it.

"We have very strong lines of communication between ourselves here at Bishop Burton and the staff at Cottingham.

"I think that's been evident over the years with the likes of Josh Tymon, Greg Luer, Jarrod Bowen and Max Clark all stepping up, so those strong lines are there and there is a pathway for the lads to see.

"They know that if they are of the right standard and they go there and perform to the levels that the gaffer and his staff need them to, they'll get an opportunity."

Reading that it's like they have forgot what the club is called despite recent commitments to use Hull City.

Well, they did say by the beginning of April things would change, and you can't expect these people to do a simple thing like instructing staff members to start using our real name. Too busy banning people at the moment.

Yep. But been a good pro he plays for the ressies and doesn't sulk and pretend he's injured. Could just run his contract down.
