"So far so good " said the suicide passing the 10th floor on his way down from the 30th. No doubting Roman has succeeded in everything he wanted to achieve and deserves and gets my thanks. my opinion is what he has done in the past won't work now, as all the dynamics of success in the game has changed completely. Contracts seem to mean nothing, the money is beyond obscene, and we as a privately funded Club vs Arab Families or even Countries , are at a big disadvantage now. We will need to be smarter, employ more professional and knowledgable people and above all, we need a well structured long term Plan.
Just don’t think it will ever happen. They’ve gone long term at City, but don’t think Roman’s cronies want that
Sure they won't, life is pretty cushy for the cronies, all the fun and none of the responsibilities. Been some reports here that RA is happy to keep Conte for next season IF he stops moaning about transfers. If true, that would be a very good move by RA and maybe he is reconsidering his methods. Surely he and Conte can sit down and sort out more sensible transfers, clear out some players and bring in the 3 or so top liners we so obviously need. One lives in hope.
Of course RA could solve it by actually going all out to get Conte's targets, like most good chairmen.
Agree with this. I think RA has been a great chairman tbf, but we have a real world class manager in Conte. If he stays then the club should back him to the hilt, with signings that HE wants. He is definitely someone who can get us back fighting for the title imo.
Yup and quality over quantity. Conte wanted Nainggolan, but we ended up signing Bakayoko, Drinkwater and Ross Barkley. We didnt need 3 ****e midfielders, we'd have been better served signing one great one. Or maybe Nainggolan and one of the above (I'd go to Danny ****ing Drinkwater of those three) You cant tell me Baka, Drinkwater and Barkleys signing fees and wages together (£80m plus around £400k a week) were less than what we'd have had to pay for Nainggolan.
This It's like Conte said, we didnt need to spend 200m on a load of average players, spend it on 2 or 3 top players. We are the champions for ffs and should strengthen from a position of strength. Also, whover sanctioned the transfer of Matic to United should be f***ing horse-whipped.
Yup, dont even get me started on that. Especially since Juve showed interest. We need to stop selling good players to United, Mata was one ****ing thing, but Matic? I wasnt too bummed about him leaving, as good as he was, because Kante plays the same role and is better, but you cannot tell me United were the only ones who would have signed him.
Exactly. If I was in charge of the club and Matic said he wanted to go there, my answer would have been "Are you bollocks". I would have gave him a list of clubs he won't be joining ie, United, City, Spurs, Liverpool or Arsenal. Anyone else is ok or any team abroad. You don't weaken yourselves and strengthen your rivals ffs. Too much crap about loyalty to our club as well. Lampard was loyal, Terry was loyal. Matic wasn't. We also pay our players bloody well.
You may be right perhaps the changing environment may give RA pause for thought; one of the few positive developments this season has been the introduction of young blood in the cup competitions - I often thought the practice of farming our talent to be wasteful and in some cases came back to bite us. Like you said we need a new spine in order for us to stay in touch with the increasing competition and to throw out the deadwood.
Shouldn't be too difficult to sort out. We have the core of a top class team which needs strengthening in 3 areas, a world class manager and an owner who is dedicated to his Club. We have a raft of really talented youngster ready to be introduced as regular players with very little need to buy any more squad players like Barkley, Zappacosta or Drinkwater. Replace the cronies with football savvy pros, and work together with a long term plan. Has to be the way to go.
How exactly did Jose "**** us" over Matic? He was United manager at the time, he was the one who bought Matic to United, he had no say in Chelsea's decision to sell Matic to United, because he wasnt AT Chelsea at the time. What was he supposed to do? Turn down a great defensive midfielder, which happened to be exactly what his squad needed, out of some misplaced loyalty to the club who had fired him.....twice? You're ****ing insane. The only people who ****ed us over Matic was Emenalo and Marina **** chops. Marina urged Emenalo to get the squads wages down and Emenalo brokered the deal with United to sell Matic.
