Eire may back me up here, in both rugby and gaelic over our way, kids were always taught (before lifting was allowed in rugby) that if you can reach a ball with one hand, for example to tap it at a lineout, you can reach it with two hands to catch it. It's true, try it for yourself - which means anyone teaching keepers to punch are doing it to attempt to intimidate the opposition, or they don't know what they're at. I think keepers punch because they feel rightly that their ribs are less exposed to stray elbows etc, and are just wimping out nowadays. Who is the last keeper you watched who preferred to catch rather that punch?.
Evening Davy. It wouldn’t be too bad if he could punch though. He can’t even read the flight of the ball to connect with it
Entirely different problem Eire, I'll grant you. Used to play hooker for my local social rugby team, the number of second rows in the lineout who had the same problem, tried to blame it on my throwing....
Shako, check this out, I reckon you need to get the mot one of these for the beer runs: please log in to view this image
Thought this was interesting, Saiz to blame for TC losing his job? "Samu Saiz’s six-match ban for spitting at Newport to proved to be the death knell for Christiansen’s tenure as the Dane was sacked last month to be replaced by Paul Heckingbottom. Simply put, the squad is not good enough. With enough points already banked and an easier run of fixtures coming Leeds should not be dragged into a relegation battle (although their recent form is bottom-three worthy), so Heckingbottom must use the run-in to find out all he can about his squad and where the deficiencies lie. Key man: Samu Saiz – The great ‘What if?’ of this season is how Leeds’ form would have gone had Saiz not spat at Newport. The Spaniard is such an important player for Leeds and Heckingbottom must now keep him motivated for the rest of the season - and then Radrizzani must brace for summer offers for the 27-year-old. Final position: 9th" What do you think then?
Doesn't quite fit mate. It's all about positioning of the body when it comes to catching. Get your body behind it for confidence or take a chance still a fumble otherwise or the alternative is punch, lineouts are one dimensional with the exception of a hip twist. Confidence is right up there with ability within the sticks IMO
Never thought about this before, but what would happen if a Felix type keeper had a couple of players to lift him like a line-out player, above everyone to easily catch the ball. Would it be allowed and would Felix be brilliant
No he needs someone to stand behind him and push the fecker off his line at the right time. Then two defenders to lift him
Even if they were all top quality it makes for a very uneven squad. You need to good players fighting for every position in the team.
