The reality is, if you genuinely think 2nd to 4th means ****all then neither the Liverpool or Man City game means anything to Man Utd.

Liverpool apparently isn't a rival so there are no bragging rights attached whatever the outcome

Man City are local but any bragging rights gained from a win will be instantly pissed on when City fans point at the League Cup and PL title.

People expect the players to big games up at all times and would be mortified if one said "meh, nothing special", a manager can get away with saying the game is no different to him because he is expected to want to win every game regardless of opposition.
