Celtic have complained to UEFA over Sion’s inclusion of five ineligible players in their Europa League squad and hope to be reinstated in the competition following their 3-1 aggregate defeat to the Swiss side.

Speaking after the second leg of the tie in Sion on Thursday night, Neil Lennon revealed that a complaint had been lodged earlier in the week and had been followed up with a further complaint to UEFA’s match delegate prior to kick-off.

"We have sent in letters last week and handed one to the delegate," he said. "There is hearing on Tuesday and we will know the outcome after that.

"If clubs are breaking the rules then every club should break the rule then."

Sion included Pascal Feindouno, Mario Mutsch, Gabri, Jose Goncalves and Billy Ketkeophomphone in their squad for European competition despite FIFA ruling that the players should not be eligible due to a transfer embargo imposed in 2010.

The Swiss FA allowed the players to be registered after the club won a civil case in a domestic court but UEFA have warned of sanctions against the players, the club and the Swiss FA, saying the governing body must bear responsibility for verifying and approving the quintet’s eligibility.

The matter has been escalated to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and, should FIFA have their transfer ban upheld, santions against the parties involved could include the removal of Sion from European competition.

In two minds about this. Obviously it would be remiss of the club not to appeal if Sion are indeed breaking the rules (and FIFA think they are). On the other hand, it's ****ing embarassing that we have to stoop to this <doh>

This is sour grapes by that prick lawwell. Next he will be complaining to the Met Office that the weather in december was conducive to us getting rattled in a league game.

UEFA President Michel Platini has backed Celtic and says Sion should be kicked out.

Surely if the President is saying that then it has to happen?

But all cases are heard by an independent panel.

That's as may be but it's not looking good for Sion. I would rather we had gone through by beating them but we're not in a position to turn down European football, regardless of how we get there.

    Fingers crossed.

Not too fussed about this competition to be honest, I want us to win every game which is why I'm not happy we're out. I'm aware of co-eff points, extra revenue, the fact us being in european can increase the standard of player we get in.......but I just find it abit of a distraction.

Naw Brum. We can win this tournament. When we play under the Parkhead floodlights in front of a full crowd, we can beat anyone. <deludedsmiley>

I think this is a side show the club will be loving it as they can play on it to distract fans while the transfer window closes and we sign nobody.

On one hand we got pumped, on the other hand, they deliberately cheated and should be ****ed out.

we shouldn't have to appeal, it is a bit like the police knowing that somebody committed a murder and have all the evidence but not arresting the culprit till the victim comes back from the dead to complain.

I don't really care if we sneak in the back door, the simple fact is Sion have broken the rules so they should be papped out. <ok>

**** it, why not? Three good sides, big crowds and more TV money.

Alright, we'd probably get pumped home and away but at least we'd be getting pumped by a better class of team.

Isn't there something like £4m up for grabs too? Grab it with both hands if it comes our way, which it won't imo.
