I couldn't believe how bad Stoke were. A more clinical team would have had an easy 4-0 while they just bickered with each other. Although its a painful two points dropped, it gives me hope that they looked so dreadful. Nice one Lambert.
Not for me, on paper anyway, would say they are similar. They have a few who would get into our side. Bournemouth was the team I just thought of.
Lawro gone for 2-1 Newcastle Southampton are not creating enough opportunities to win games, which is why they are languishing near the bottom of the table. Similarly, Newcastle's main aim against Liverpool at Anfield last week was to keep the score down. The Magpies never looked like scoring themselves and the game was over as soon as the Reds went ahead. But their whole approach will be very different this time and I am expecting an atmosphere to match at St James' Park because their fans know their home form will be crucial in keeping them up. Lawro's prediction: 2-1
I thought we were creating the most chances, outside of the top 6/7 teams. We just don’t convert them. You would expect a football pundit to know that, but then again, it is Lawro
I'm always skeptical of chances created stat. Who and what exactly defines a chance? I certainly don't think we create a lot of chances.
Pundits don't fancy us much this week Merson gone for 2-0 Newcastle Newcastle came up against a better team in Liverpool the other day, but I think they'll be alright. You look at them and they've got players who, especially Jonjo Shelvey if he plays well, should make sure they're alright at home and they got a massive result against Manchester United the other week. Southampton have got four away games on the trot, they're in the FA Cup against Wigan and when they're doing that Premier League teams will be playing football, if they win then they'll be in the semi-final when teams will be playing again. They could be in a horrible position soon, if they don't get anything here. They'll be playing catch-up and will be in the bottom three. They're missing Charlie Austin, and they seem like a team who want to don't lose before they win.
Well it's certainly time to stand up & be counted. The up & comings games are all defining & if MP, players or combination fail, we'll be well & truly sunk. Me? I've still got faith but it's hanging by a thread. Our PL performances have been pretty dull & poor for what seems an eternity, albeit vs WBA & let's be honest, we only really scrapped through, on all those 3x wins. COYS (please).
I have converted. If we play 442 I think we will win. I want us to play 4231 but we are incapable of getting anyone near Carillo in that formation so we need either Gabbi, Shane or Josh up there with him. Shane and Josh defend enough that we get an extra midfielder if needed when we don't have the ball anyway and they have the pace to get up the field when we do have it and Gabbi might just start scoring again if he isn't left isolated
Speaking of Geordies - I have found a youtube film about Shearer scoring goals for Southampton FC. And after years of lookinh for this I found the first goal I ever witnessed live which wa Shearer scoring against Chelsea on a 1-0 win
I'd still like to see Carrillo and Gabbi start together, whether that's in a 442 (won't happen) or 4231. There's also no reason to play 3 central midfielders against Newcastle so 2 from Romeu, Lemina and Hojbjerg. Preferably the latter two.
