Not sure about that either, plenty of technically gifted players have a dirty side, particularly midfielders.

Athletic have a goal back!!! It would be nothing short of amazing if Athletic win this tie overall as I feel Marseilles are a better team. But sometimes the better team falters as we saw in the FA Cup with Wigan and Manchester City.

    Not technically gifted?!? Really?

His arse is what gives him strength, watch how he uses his body to shield the ball and holds people off, personally think he is returning to his best.

Agree with with you RAWMOK. if people think Jack Wilshere is technically gifted what does that make the likes of Nicky Holmes, Steve Baker and Steve Williams? Absolute gods of football!! Wilshere is a Championship player at best, but has had the good fortune that Arsenal have perservered with him. In fact he would not look out of place in Pompey´s team.

I don’t think there are many more technically gifted English players. He is however a dickhead.

Not sure that scoring goals or decision making is a reflection of a quality touch and technical ability. Steve Williams was my hero. Technically gifted and a filthy, dirty animal :), so being dirty is no reflection either.

Unlike Wilshere, Steve Williams was not a ****head- And his darker arts were more subtle as I never really saw them. Waldron on the other hand ... but I still loved him. Wilshere to my mind is out of his depth as a PL footballer and should be consigned to League 1. Charlton have footballers who are just as good as Wilshere.

3-1 now to Marseille against Athletic. When the last 8 in the El has been decided, I will have to check back to see if there are any teams left who came through the qualifiying stages pre the groups. It seems as if the likes of Milan and Athletic were involved at that stage for obvious reasons.

How many yellow and red cards did Steve Williams get in his career? He was a divine footballer and I never saw him do anything untoward, although I do accept he did indulge in the darker side re Bailey at Blackburn.

It seems our definition of technically gifted differ a bit on Wilshere and maybe it's my dislike of him clouding my judgement.

Completely with you on Williams though. A different time, a different game, the cog of the team and granted, not a great goalscorer. Maybe it's my worship of him clouding my judgement.

I do not think there is any cloud regarding your judgement of one Steve Williams. He was a supremely talented footballer that today´s crop of England footballers are not fit to tie his laces together, save Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

As you may know TLL I am a hybird supporter as I like all the teams in the Solent región to do well. I have seen plenty of Pompey matches throughout the years and IMO Jack Wilshere would fail to illuminate any PFC team that I have ever seen. He is bog standard ordinary, but fortunate to have a good agent and a very benevolent manager in Arsene Wenger, and to be playing with players who are very good.

I remember league one, Wilshere would make every midfielder in that division look utterly stupid.

Or he'd get injured after four and a half minutes.

OK, who do we support in the EL now. I do not think Athletic will get through. How about Sporting?

Wilshere has the capacity to make John Terry loveable.

For reasons stated above, we need Arsenal to get through to the quarters. I’ve always quite liked Atlético, would be good if they won it.

I expect they win it. Definitely the best team left in it.
