The worrying thing is that since Alexander Litvinenko was assassinated in 2006, there have been several other attempts on former Russian spies and dissidents in the West, with plenty of evidence pointing towards the Russian state. So far, neither British or American governments have gone as far as making any accusations, but if this latest atrocity can’t be laid at anyone else’s door, surely questions will be asked?
There is no logic to going after people from the past (at least in Western eyes), but Putin may be trying to stir up trouble, so the West become agitated and appear to threaten Russia. He needs such a threat to appear a hero and get public support. The truth is that the West is no threat to Moscow if they leave us alone, but he doesn't want his people to know that....he has an interest in discord. The same as North Korea in fact.
But as Dave says above, the presence of Trump on the scene carries things to a whole new level of bluff and counter-bluff. Just like Putin, the orange one needs some kind of outside threat so he can appear strong to his voters. In many ways, it’s similar to the situation in Europe before the First World War, with huge empires arming themselves and looking for any excuse to start something. Look how that turned out...
I thought Trump and Putin got on? Didn't they help fund his campaign or something? Thought that was a big news story quite recently
Unless Putin helped Trump win because each of them needs someone like the other to pose as an outside threat... Paranoid? Moi?
I feel sorry for Alexis Sanchez. You put all that effort in to being a dick for 18 months, nobody likes you, you sign for some right twonks and get paid £400K a week, a before you you have time to spend a quid some blighter starts talking up World War Three. Rude.
A quote taken from the Mirror editorial, reference the attempt to kill the ex spy. “Whatever happens next, let’s hope the adults take over and Boris Johnson, a sorry excuse for a Foreign Secretary, is sidelined”. I would second that.
Didn't get what you meant as I couldn't even see an on-off switch, but you are quite right. Man in t'shop said it wouldn't do it automatically...you have to turn it off and on again. Who knew? Well apart from you anyway.
Totally shocked to hear about a murder in the small town I grew up in - I knew the victim who was a year younger than me though I hadn't seen her since I left school. A 16-year old boy is suspected of beating her to death Things like this happen about once every 20 years or so - if that - around here so it's shaken everyone, whether they knew her or not. RIP Fiona.
Just Face Timed her (she is in the US), but had to stop as a HUGE contraction came. Technology is amazing.
