Indeed. Why would a new venue put itself in a position to publicly make itself look stupid before its already opened...?

I'm not the one who 'confirmed' he was playing. If you can point me to an official confirmation, by all means do so.

New venue/business tries to generate free publicity by tweeting famous person with millions of followers in the hope of getting a reply which would then get seen by millions of people making said people aware of venue they may have been unaware of.

    OR

Hull Venue tweeted Liam Gallagher so he MUST be opening the Venue. OMG.

    Why do they look stupid?

They took an opportunity to capitalise on a news story for a little self-promotion and it's worked, the story's being picked up by the papers and I just saw NME tweeting about it.

    It's good PR. <whistle>

Liam Gallagher at Hull Venue was booked months ago.
It's about building it up folks.

Paul Savage, head of entertainment sales and marketing at Hull Venue, told the Mail: “Noel and Liam’s sibling rivalry is infamous and the younger Gallagher’s cutting insults towards his brother on Twitter have attracted a huge amount of attention.

"We saw Noel’s comments on stage in America and it was no surprise to see Liam use it to get at his older brother. As Liam clearly loves Hull so much, we thought we’d extend an offer for him to bring his tour to the Venue as part of our opening season this summer.

"There’s been a huge reaction on social media and it’s clear there’s a massive LG fanbase in the city. Hopefully he can find room in his busy schedule this summer for a stop off in Hull.”

I hope he does play in Hull, but it isn't confirmed and I won't believe it until he himself says anything.

As it stands, nowt is confirmed, ergo nowt is happening.

It looks like there's going to be some sort of announcement, about a 'standing gig', at 8.55am tomorrow.

And they'd look utterly ridiculous and disappoint thousands of fans if it didn't now happen.

But it will... because it's already been agreed.

How is it good PR if he turns around and says no?

And I didn’t say they look stupid. I said they would put themselves into a position to look stupid if he said no.

I have to say I absolutely ****ing love the notion that loads of people who hadn’t heard of Hull Venue, now have, and when Liam sadly says he can’t make it, his fans will instead book to see Jasper Carrot and Alistair Macgowan.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Liam announced tomorrow. Tour date = money. He's very desperate after the divorce....

For a bloke who's supposed to be in PR, that's a remarkably daft post.

This one's much less likely to come off than Liam opening the Venue...

Hull to pitch for Channel 4 creative hub - 08/03/18

Hull will pitch for one of three creative hubs to be set up by Channel 4.

The broadcaster announced today that a pitch process will be launched in April, with regions across the UK bidding for one of the new hubs.

The move, called 4 All The UK, will see a National HQ established outside of London, alongside two new smaller creative hubs in the nations and regions in 2019 – home to 300 Channel 4 jobs, including key creative decision-makers, with the intention to grow over time.

A decision on the location of the hubs is set be made in quarter three of this year.

The broadcaster will increase its outlay on nations and regions content significantly, from 35 per cent to 50 per cent of main channel UK commissions, by 2023 – a rise of more than £250 million.

Mark Jones MBE, Director of Regeneration, said: “We are proud to have been recognised by Channel 4 as a potential destination for one of its new creative hubs.

“No one should be in any doubt about the sheer ambition of this city. From a City of Culture year that exceeded all expectations to attracting global companies like Siemens, we have proven what can be achieved when businesses, the council and residents work together for the benefit of Hull.

“We think Hull shares Channel 4’s creative vision and values. With £3 billion of investment already delivered in the city, our future is bright. So why not Hull?”
