Was I watching a different Vuckic? Lost the ball too often and passing wasn't very accurate. Just because we want a player to do well doesn't mean he has.

Krul - 9 - Yes he still flaps at crosses but his shot stopping wins games. Kept us in the game without doubt.
Simpson - 4 - I honestly thought he was that bad. The winger was raping him at will.
Raylor - 7 - His goal gets him up to a 7. Not quite as good as opening two games but not for a lack of effort.
    Willo - 6 - Did ok
Saylor - 8 - Thought he made a big difference to how we imposed ourselves on them 2nd half
Colo - 8 - couple of uncharacteristic mistakes but generally excellent again. That run down the right was awesome.
Cabaye - 7 - I thought he did ok and will definetly turn out to be a good signing. Good workrate and his passing is starting to show.
Gosling - 5 - Very poor. Although he got in the right positions a couple of times, his shooting was terrible. Then he was anonymous for long spells. Give him time though still working his way back. Did do this for Everton when I watched him though.
Marveaux - 6 - I must have watched a different player so I'm hesitant to comment after reading everyone elses! First half I thought he struggled badly and was easily muscled out of the game. Some of his passing was sloppy too. He looked our only genuine threat that said. I thought he improved when they moved him central when Sammy came on. Showed nice touches and after 9 months I saw enough in his class to know he needs time/support. Due to his size he''ll take longer to adapt but has a bit of Malouda about him.
Lovenkrands - 5 - Out of position but finished for me.
Best - 5 Thought he did ok in little spells but generally poor. Finishing poor. And don't start with this pussy **** throwing yourself on the floor and feeling your back cause you don't fancy it. He did win some ball when he tried and the supply line was obviously poor.
Ba - 4 - Shocking. Don't know what else to say.
Vuckic - 7 - Lost the ball a lot and you couldn't start him in the PL in the centre of midfield. But he brought some real drive and spark to proceedings and showed nice touches.
Sammy - 9 - Outstanding and completely changed the game in my opinion.

I thought Simo was decent in defence but we could do with an improvement going forward. Let's face it, the lads not Cafu.

Raylor was shocking apart from the goal and the run for the pen that never was. At the back he was shocking, always out of position and lost every 50/50.

Best was the 'best' of the front three, he was good in the air but he's not the best on the deck.

Marveaux was impressive but faded, probs tired after so long out.

Ba is a complete heap of ****, hope he improves but it looks like we've been well taken on there. Shola looks better than him.

If Best was playing with a different type of striker other than Ba I think he would have done better. He didn't have the best of games but then again we had Lovenkrands and Simpson on his side of the field. Was Best's disallowed goal actually offside? I missed the replays.

I'd like to give you a more honest appreciation of your player performances last night actually, you see if your numbers are anything to go by then you'd have torn Scunny to pieces, and that's not what happened. You under performed and looked to be on your way out if it wasn't for the two youngsters Sammy and Haris that come on and changed the game.

Krul - 8 - Few world class saves, distribution leaves a lot to be desired. If we can merge his shot stopping with De Gea's distribution we'd have a super-keeper.

Simpson - 4 - Gaping holes at RB all night long, got beaten for pace and technique by League 1 standard opposition all night long.

S Taylor - 7 - Apart from his red flash where he attempted to snap that guys ankle, he was pretty solid and commanded his area well.

Colo - 7 - Few misplaced clearances but calm on the ball overall.

Williamson - 5 - Rusty, looked out of place, missing all kinds when it came to reading their play, liability.

R Taylor - 7 - Dead ball specialist grabs another goal but a few fumbles at the back, truly exposes his lack of experience at LB but that's not his fault, since he's a right sided player.

Marveaux - 6 - Lightweight, didn't create any opportunity going forward, seemed reluctant to run at the opposition and beat them.

Cabaye - 5 - Poor by his own standards, but worked hard. Nothing of note in the entire match, noted for his long shots he only managed one from about 40 yards.

Gosling - 4 - Looked extremely unfit and his lack of composure wasted a few chances for the Toon to get back at Scunny.

Lovenkrands - 2 - For some parts of this match I thought this guy was playing for Scunny, he has absolutely nothing to his game, wastes chance after chance and never looks for the pass, terrible performance, he can produce much better.

Ba - 4 - Unfit, disinterested, probably hungry if he's fasting. Time will help this guy out as he's a good striker.

Best - 7 - one of the top performers last night, unlucky that his goal was disallowed, also unlucky that he narrowly missed first half. Got into good positions, and acted as a target man for ALL THOSE LONG BALLS!

S Ameobi - 8 - I like the look of this kid, has an Asprilla touch about him, must weigh about 4 stone wet through, but he will bulk up and looks to be very promising indeed, top goal.

Vuckic - 7 - Muscled in and roughed up Scunny, they couldn't handle him. He looks promising as well and has a decent left foot on him. He should be in front of Gosling in the pecking order in my opinion.

I must say, had Jonas and maybe Obertan started, you would have torn Scunthorpe to shreds, but it was definitely the right decision by Pardew to give your new, less-fit guys the chance to show what they can do. Tiote, Jonas and Obertan will all be fit for your next game after the rest, and they need to make the most of it. Best should start against Fulham, he's got good vision and he's certainly got a lot of enthusiasm as well as a very good shot.

Best spent the night pulling faces at people if they didn't pass the ball directly to his feet, apart from the hattrick against West Ham he has done very little to impress me.

Raylor didn't have a solid performance at left back. He gave the ball away on a number of occasions, got caught out of position regularly and was beaten too easily on too many occasions, just like the rest of this season to date.

Krull - 8 - Kept Newcastle in the game with some fine saves, one or two mistakes but nothing remotely costly (MOM)

Simpson - 5 - Not one of his better games.

Raylor - 6 - Would have been 5 but for another quality, important free kick.

Williamson - 5 - Should have won the ball in the air that their defender headed down to set up their goal.

Colo - 7 - Another solid display, looked comfortable on the ball too, good distribution.

Marveaux - 5 - Very poor first half giving the ball away far too often but did get a little better in the second and into ET.

    Cabaye - 7 - See Colo above

Gosling - 3 - Worst performance of a Newcastle player in a long time. Shocking passing and tackled every time he kept the ball. Hope he had flu or something else which might explain such a bad performance. Really disapointed considering he was supposed to have had a good pre-season?

    Lovenkrands - 5 - Should have scored.

Best - 6 - Void of ideas at times but should have had a goal against his name.

Ba - 4 - Does not look match fit????

    Subs -

Saylor - 7 - Defence improved significantly following his introduction.

Vuckic - 7 - Looked lively and a 100% improvement on the player he replaced. Very promising display. Seemed to go off the boil in ET though.

Sameobi - 7.5 - Great goal, good lively display showing good ball skills, so far this season he has looked our best striker on this one appearance alone, I find that very worrying.

I actually thought Best was ONE of our Best PLAYERS.. (no pun). He looked lively, won a lot in the air(although he's not really a target man at all), got into some good positions and a had a wrongly disallowed goal. He should start against Fulham IMO.. <ok>

  16. You're all a bit too harsh on Lovenkrands, he definitely wasn't the worst player, and he set up Best brilliantly but Best couldn't finish.

    I'd give him a 5.5 at least.

I think apart from Krul no one deserves more than a 7 baring in mind the opposition, Ameobi, Vuckic, Cabaye & Taylor's all on 7's for me, everyone else lower <ok>

In defense of Gosling, he's only played sunderland away last year since we signed him! Give him chance
