Support is more than financial input to the club, far less financial commitment. For example, if you paid for your children to be educated in the most expensive institution in the world, would you be considered to be supportive if you chanted biliously "Your're going to fcuking fail, you're going to fcuking fail' every two minutes? Or go into apoplectic meltdown when they only score 97% in their exams?
Using your hypothetical example: If you didn't pay for your childs upbringing but gave all possible praise from a distance you would not have supported them no matter how many times you shouted " how marvelous they were".. If they then were succeful and you tried to take credit for or join in the celebration you would IMO be a twat. To be clear am not suggesting nor claiming wj is a twat. wj will understand I just applied the same logic as he did to the opposite situation.
