Sure... Technically that goes against the competition rules. Breach of rules not to field your strongest XI. Although not sure how they judge that. Yes UEFA, this group of U21 are our strongest team.

no breach of rules since you have to list your CL squad at start of the comp and can amend it after the group stages as we did adding for example VVD & Clyne.

 

i don't think clyne will start but he could be an option here.

not sure i'd waste a sub on a position with 3 players competing for the shirt. Surely you save the sub for the position where a guy is playing 2 a week.

 

Technically the rules state you have to play your strongest team, you're not supposed to rest players... I mean it happens, and UEFA would have hard time proving the first XI didn't all have minor concerns so had to be sat out... But technically not playing the strongest team is a breach of the rules.

There was grumbling at one of Rodgers teams in Europa one year with rivals over reacting and saying we should be banned from Europe for not Fielding strongest team.

Not unless rules have changed in last few years. You are required to pick your strongest XI from the registered players... Not just any XI. Almost never enforced though.

You are required to pick from 25 man squad... You can't pick anyone outside that (unless they're under 18 I believe) but you're supposed to field your strongest XI. United fans were screaming for us to be punnished when Rodgers didn't field his strongest... And there were talks about us being punnished. But UEFA does not usually take action. It's more there so they can protect the competition if peipep start valuing domestic game above continental game and stop taking it seriously.
