You're absolutely right. I'm not decrying the tv coverage or those who are limited to it. Really handy for me for away games. But given the choice, I'd rather be there. Not just for the visuals that I've mentioned, but the atmosphere, the wags in the crowd with their side-splitting comments, the stewards trying to throw me out for swearing (and the howling laughter / protests / abuse / competitive swearing from all around), the expletive-peppered analysis, and meeting up with friends & regulars. Fabulous, even when we lose or play rubbish. Or both Ups & downs right enough. Magic! MOT
You can’t get the raw atmosphere of a Leeds crowd on tv (especially the away crowd that often makes more noise than the rest of the stadium). It sends a shiver down my spine, nearest you can get to tribalism. You see little things, a players body language, a player rushing to tackle back or whining at the ref after they lose the ball, looks between players, all sorts of stuff. However, you also miss a lot. Things happen quickly and the ability on tv to see from a good vantage point, often from several vantage points, greatly helps your understanding of (say) what went wrong when we concede a goal. Plus replays and freeze framing a key moment help a lot. Neither is perfect, ideally you’d see tHe game, then have access to the tv recording. I do get a bit tired of hearing you’ve got to be at the game to know who played well, what went wrong etc etc. Truth is neither option is perfect.
Depends on the person, tbh. I personally have great difficulty in properly analysing a game from the telly. I need the bigger picture. But you're right - you can't see everything, particularly the detail. Won't be the first time I've seen one of ours red carded & thought it an innocuous tackle. Then you get home & cringe when you see the actual attempted-murder tackle in it's pomp on the telly from 27 different slow-motion angles. The late, great Jock Stein, when scouting opponents only used a pencil & notepad to assess a team. Not in the way you think, though! He simply used the pad as a pitch, & tracked every pass with his pencil. At the end of the match, he had a pattern of play, & used that to unlock the opposition. Takes all sorts!

Fiorentina captain Davide Astori has died, aged 31. His death was announced just hours before the Italy defender was due to lead his club side out against Udinese. Astori is reported to have died suddenly on Sunday morning in a Udine hotel. The club were basing themselves at the hotel ahead of Sunday's Serie A match. A club statement read: "Fiorentina is deeply saddened to announce that our captain Davide Astori has passed away, after suffering a sudden illness. "For this terrible and delicate situation, and above all out of respect for his family, we appeal to the sensitivity of the media." The central defender began his career with AC Milan, but failed to break into the first team. He moved to Cagliari in 2008 and made 174 appearances in six years at the club.
