Hate hearing that from Sims, "we know we're too good to be down there" And that ladies and gentleman, is one of the biggest ****ing issues we've got, and is a big reason why we are in trouble imo. The complacency and arrogance surrounding the entire club is absolutely astounding.
Yeah it's all been a bit too predictable this season. West Ham are very beatable at the moment, plus I think Reid went off injured today so defensively they could be even more vulnerable. Newcastle though are a mixed bag. One minute they play well and pull off a decent result, the next they look awful. Any other manager and I'd feel confident of 4 points from those, under Pellegrino though...
It makes it a somewhat interesting match-up next weekend. One who (in my view) have possibly the weakest squad in the division, but one the best managers (certainly amongst the sides down the bottom end of the table). The other who have a squad that, whilst nowhere near as good as the recent past, doesn't look half bad on paper, but a manager who is dreadfully out of his depth. Ultimately, we're both where we are because of our managers more than our players. But only one of us can be happy about that.
That's not good. We may have a team who in my opinion should be around mid table but to suggest we're too good to be down here is wrong. Unfortunately we're where we deserve to be based on our performances and results this season.
Yeah thought so mate. Everyone knows that we'll secure our safety with a 3-0 win at Goodison Park on the penultimate weekend
I want to let Sims off, because he's young. But hearing him say that a moment ago didn't exactly sit comfortably with me. I'm not saying that I'd rather we were all at panic stations and losing our heads, but he could have come across at least slightly concerned about the predicament that we're in. And no doubt it's the same feeling at the top of the club too. Certainly the evidence would suggest so.
Heard that too on MOTD - came out really bad, and could only be construed as arrogance and complacency really.
Agreed. It's an attitude that comes across from top to bottom. From the board, to the manager and players. Just assuming that we'll get better because we're 'too good' to go down. Things will turn around eventually right? Meanwhile nothing changes, we continue to go through the motions, other teams make changes, we continue to do the same thing whilst saying that we'll be fine. It was all because VVD wanted out though, so now he's gone everything will be fine. It's really quite sad how limply we're heading for the exit door. Changes don't always work but at least you can say you tried to work it out. We're just mindlessly doing the same thing over and over. Focusing on the odd 15 or 30 minute displays where we played quite well and saying, 'if we play like we did in that half for the rest of the season we'll be fine'. 9 games left. We're still up **** creek and we're still dong and saying the same things. I need to go to bed.
The manager situation is my main gripe, It is clear to me that the only reason that the club is sticking with MP is because of the back lash they received from the media after sacking Puel. In this case they bowed to the pressure from the supporters and players despite a pretty good end result. As a result they have employed a man who they thought could become another surprise manager as before, but it is clearly not working, but cannot fire him as would seem to be a admittance of their cock up. If we get out of this mess it will only be the players who come out with any credit as in my opinion the whole higher management team are culpable for the **** state the club are in now. We can stay up, but if we do, things need to change. Enter our new owners making a difference?
If Sims' interview has done one thing, it will have convinced the rest of the country watching that they want us to go down. The only saving thing is that we were last on MOTD and most fans will have fallen asleep out of boredom by the interviews stage
So reading between the lines what you are saying is MP2 is not just the worst manager in the EPL but he doesn't fair too well against Championship managers either! Begs the question why have the ****wits on the board stuck by him? Heaven only knows! To be honest I can't help but feel negativity towards Saints at the moment. All love is gone and in a way I want them to be relegated. Strange I know but that's how I feel right now.
Some people slip to negativity far quicker than others. I said last week, I don’t get why people are moaning, as they must have strange expectations if they think something will suddenly change. I read the same moaning each week and wonder what their thought process is. It can hardly be a shock. I’ll keep looking at the positives (and there are a few), whilst hoping we scramble those much needed wins. If the worst happens, I’ll deal with it then.
Just out of curiosity, how will you deal with it? Or will it be a spontaneous moment, that cannot be envisioned.
Stoke city at home was never going to be a free flowing game of football. It was all about set pieces, free kicks and corners and our best deliverer was on the bench. Everything was stuck with a pitching wedge and absolutely no danger. down I’m afraid.
I don't think we have a great squad , to be honest but this is not an unreasonable opinion. I keep thinking about how good the likes of Lemina or Boufal would be under another coach. The performances have been poor largely because of the tactics / formation we have played as opposed to players not turning up. Too many home matches have been drawn / lost due to inept tactical decisions. Last season I think the crowd were simply bored by the drab style of football. The lack if goals did for Puel at the end of the season . I think moments like the last 30 minutes in the 2nd half have shown we can play football yet the other 67 minutes played was pretty hopeless. You have to keep realising we were playing against Stoke!! The annoying thing is that I am convinced another manager would pull us clear pretty quickly but keeping MP2 in charge gives me no confidence as he is unable to see that they way he plays his football does not work. I do not understand why he cannot see this and why we never start with two up front. I appreciate he has argued about the need for other players to be protected and that he feels this is less likely with a midfielder sacrificed for a forward. However, with the evidence before his own eyes , he should have really abandoned this approach well before Christmas. This is why he needs to go sooner rather than later.
It helps that we've experienced worse seasons than this and seen us survive 98/99 springs to mind, hell most of the 90's. This experience makes you a bit more sanguine about the bigger picture. Having said that if venting after a game helps express your hurt or fustration then I get that too. Different horses and all that
