Hot water bottles, eh?? Is that in the house at night under the roost?

Ours have had the run door open for two days, but don’t venture out. They hear me at the back door, get excited, rush to the open door and get about 6” outside the run and stop.

    No, they don’t like snow.

Strapped to the side of the roost. I suspect it does little to warm the Hens but makes her feel better.
It's times like these you realise Hens are just evolved dinosaurs from the jungle floor who aren't really equipped for cold white stuff.

Mine seem ok though. Giving them a little extra corn for fat/warmth and still laying. Four eggs from four again today :)

Do you give them layers’ pellets? Good for the extra calcium they need in this weather, helps in eggshell-forming. Our ducks went completely off lay when the weather got cold, but started again when we gave them the pellets.

Yes, layers pellets and layers mash with oyster shell. We often recycle their own egg shells back into their mix for the calcium.

    What ducks do you have?

We have 3 Harlequins, 2 Aylesburies, a Muscovy cross and a couple of Indian Runner crosses, plus a very harassed mongrel drake who thinks he’s in charge but isn’t!

We want Indian runners. Are they easy to keep and do you know if they mix well with hens?

Don’t know about pure runners but the bloke next door has some similar to ours and they seem to get on well with his hens. They need to be housed separately at night but they’re fine together in the run.

The tragic thing about baby chimps stolen for pets is that a troop of 8-10 chimps probably died to capture them. Glad this one got rescued, but is a tip of a pile of wickedness. It is exactly the same as snatching a human toddler from its family....must be terrified.

In those far-off days when athletics was a purely amateur sport, and he had to fit in training between studying to be a doctor, he became a global sporting hero in just 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds.

    RIP Sir Roger <rose>

For the Netflixers amongst you, have just finished Seven Seconds which was great. Couple of plot holes, but well worth a watch.

Really enjoying Altered Carbon as well.
