I wonder whether MP2's reluctance for 2 up front is: a) He has never had to use it before in previous jobs b) He's worried that IF we score, how will we then defend and hold on for a 1-0 win, copared to how well we'd be set up to do so with 1 up front c) He just hasn't thought of it yet Meanwhile IF Long comes on, will it be the first time Sims and Long have been on the pitch together since Anfield....?
d) He aims to avoid losses rather than aiming to win. Including at home, in a relegation six pointer.
In relation to too many touches.... also, if you’re going to be a pedant, Redmond is also wearing a different number.
He’s one of the brighter players, it just feels Saints are a jigsaw puzzle where none of the pieces are from different sets.
You could say we are comfortable, but you could have said that about a number of our games this season. What it really means is we have not got the quality to score, and teams without quality do not stay up.
For me it may almost be the reverse of the problem England have in summer tournaments. It sometimes seems as though our aim is to keep possession and wait for the opposition to tire in the heat from chasing the ball. Only we play most of our games in the English autumn, winter and spring so that really doesn’t work.
Nice play, Sims needs to get his foot through the ball when he shoots. Seems to hesitate when striking it
