Basically snowed in here since Wednesday, I don't think I can get the car out of our small cul-de-sac due to drifting in the wind. There are some wonderful snow sculpture due to the wind and twisted icicles hanging from our conservatory. Wind has drifted up against our external doors. Had a nice walk yesterday tramping through the snow facing blizzards one minute then sun. A few dog walkers out and kids on sledges making full use of a road on a hill. Much bleaker today and no one is about and this part of Scotland seems to have gone into hibernation. I just love this weather, magnificent. Because of my hernia, I cannot ski this year which is a real pain with all this lovely snow about. I had my operation 2.5 weeks ago. They phoned up one morning with a cancellation, can you get here by 12. Given that I was told that there was a backlog of 2 months, I said yes. All seems to have gone well under a local. The don't really warn you about the after effects though. I went a deep shade of purple with lots of swelling in an area from my right hip to the other side of my equipment, which also went purple and swelled up from the bruising. That is mostly gone now but it's still sore/tender around the scar where there is a big hard lump under the skin. Bending down is difficult. Other than that I can do most things as long as I don't overdo it or lift anything heavy for 8 weeks. The Winter Olympics were a godsend for a few days after the operation. Keep warm all.
Morning all. I must say that I am glad to be back here seeing the dreadful weather in some parts of the UK. When I do come over we quite often stay in Dorset, one of the areas badly hit with snow. With temperatures back into double figures some of my heating has turned itself off, the greenhouse vent opened fully yesterday afternoon, and looking at the long range forecast I can think about making a start to my vegetable growing.
Arrived back in Cadiz last night from Liverpool. In the end not too bad. We had to cross the tarmac to get on the plane and that was a freezing experience - 8 mins being ice blasted. But arrived Madrid only 30 mins late. Metro to the station got me there 50 mins before departure (In spain you buy long distance for a specific train. Couldn't get a train Madrid to Cadiz, but could get a train to Seville and then a train to Cadiz. Spain really has functional issues ). The train had 20 carriages and was full. But there is not another one for 2.5 hours and that was the last one and shown as full. My complaints about British rail fade away). But here it has been raining heavily for 4 days and is continuing to do so. But we need the water so long may it last. Resevoirs still only a little over 30% Stay safe one and all
What area are you snowed in ? I had a hernia operation last May - but it was my navel not groin and that is far easier. Hardly any bruising and I was digging in the garden within two weeks. My brother confirms though that a groin hernia is a very nasty op and the following couple of months not pleasant.
Tonight's EIHL game at Cardiff has been called off because of the bad weather - they were supposed to be playing Manchester Storm!
Morning, Dave, morning, Yorkshire; morning, all. That SAM computer thing has us down to finish 10th. Given our fixtures I think a bad run like last year could well make our survival tighter than that.
Morn'in' all. Andy you seem a bit pessimistic today. Hope it is just the weather. I must say I think the fixtures have fallen really well for use. Those home games: West Brom, Bournemouth, Burnley, Palace, and Newcastle; and the away to Huddesfield are all winable. And the aways at Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool we can treat as FA Cup games and even rest key players. I'm looking for 44 points and anything less I'll be very dissappointed. Even 50 is possible. C'mon u'orns
Morning all, am loving you optimism Kc but can't help recalling Stoke, Huddersfield and Swansea home games this season. If West Brom are going to save themselves looking at our home record they have to get a result today. Hoping for a huge three points today as looking at the fixtures remaining for all, it may still require 40 points or more to avoid third from bottom come the close of the season.
Last night I couldn't get a stream to watch my second team play, so had to make do with a text stream that only updates every two minutes. We scored after about eight minutes, then hung on for the rest of the game. All very stressful, but it moves them up to within a point of a promotion place. This afternoon I had a horrible feeling that WBA would nick a goal and all our hopes would be sunk. Thankfully they didn't get one, and we did. I am not sure that following these two teams are good for my health, unless you think that a pumping heart is similar to taking exercise.
Morning, Dave; morning, all. Just seen how close in the table you are to the Tractors Boys, Dave. Is it like the Arsenal/Tottenham thing, where they’d rather miss out on Europe if it guaranteed finishing above the Spuds, or are you more pragmatic than that?
