I remember watching this in 1964. A lotof people who would become rock giants bought Gibson SGs because of seeing this programme.
Beat me to it. Was going to post this one. David Ruffin is one of my favourite singers and another example of having a wonderful voice doesn't mean you are a wonderful human being.
In my student days in Leeds. One bad winter (1983?), we had one posh housemate from the Isle of Man with a car (bright orange Mazda which seemed really sporty then) and would drive us onto Ilkley Moor in blizzard conditions, despite been absolutely stoned. He had a fantastic music system in his car, so I will never ever forget this song played loudly while surrounded by drifts and really flaky snow. About thirty years later (appx 3 years ago), after years of no contact with those housemates I learnt he (the housemate with the car) had tragically died living in Australia. His wife was desperate to contact us. Apparently when he was terminally ill, he used cannabis to relieve the pain, which had a natural link to our student days. All he spoke about in his last few months were these student days in Leeds and particularly the Ilkley moor drive. When she contacted us all through facebook, his widow knew more about our student days than we could actually remember, So it was quite humbling to be such an important part of his life. Every cloud has a silver lining and because of this the four remaining housemates have now regained contact. We have now met in Headingley twice (annually) and realised actually we still get on and maybe gonna make it 6 monthly.
Poignant tale. Do you and your old mates meet up in The Original Oak or The Skyrack for your reunions by any chance ? Spent most of our "studying' time in there in the mid 60's. Great memories of Headingley. I'm assuming the two pubs are still there ?
