Had a dilemma with myself. Didn't know who I should dedicate my signature to.

Ryan edged it!

 

Vuckic and Sammy definitely changed the game. They bought youthful energy, skill and pace to our game. I thought Best had a decent game, first half was very average though, Colo was cracking(as per), Krul.. woah kept us in the match that's for sure, Gosling looked average but had his moments(IMO) and special mention to Raylor.. the boy KEEPS on scoring.. maybe he's the NEW LB.. ?

 

Best best had a perfectly good goal disallowed and Ryan Taylor also should have had a penalty. Justice in the end but well played Scunny.

 

Thought Colo was pretty sloppy tonight with some of his positioning. Saylor was solid.

 

Thats whats great about that partnership tho if one has a dodgy moment the other one cleans up

 

Under the circumstances I think Sammy would have edged it for me.

Did alright 2nd half and you have to give Scunthorpe plenty of credit. But obviously the first half display did expose our squad depth a little. Some players are not ready, some just not good enough. I was particularly disappointed with Gosling. There is a worrying trend with him. He gets into good positions now and again but can't put it away, then goes missing for large chunks of the game. This just resulted in Cabaye being left with too much. Hopefully it justs rustiness. I thought Cabaye did well again and kept going. Marveaux was terrible first half and although not great 2nd either, at least showed a nice touch or two. A blind man can see it'll take him a while to adapt and he will certainly need to get a lot stronger to cope in the PL. I hope the fans wll be patient and let him have time. Colo bar a couple of moments was very good, Saylor very good. Willo ok but Saylor made a difference. Simpson was terrible all night. When you are continually raped by a League 1 winger, there is a problem. Raylor was not at his best but great free kick and kept at it. Lovenkrands did as expected, **** all, lad is finished. Ba - less said the better. Best. Tried in spells and then pissed and moaned on about his back, kept throwing himself on the floor. Bit of a pussy truth be told. He gets chances but is not a natural in front of goal. Sammy and Vuckic brought us to life a little. Vuckic not ready to start games as he holds onto it a bit too long and needs to keep it simpler but he looks a natural talent. His energy hurt them. Sammy was superb. I want his DNA checked because there is no way an Ameobi runs round that much and puts that much effort in!

Good game for the neutral but obviously we weren't very good. First half showed the winter could be a long one. Pardew correctly pinpointed that some of it was down to attitude towards the fixture and you could see that first half. How they are gonna cope when its below freezing in late December after a murderous run of games is anyones guess. All in all job done and we move on but it was a disappointing performance. Give the youth a go I say because Ferguson, Vuckic, Sameobi (as Bez called him after the game!) all look like they have the desire to push on.

On a seperate note, and maybe I'm being a bit too biased as its one of our own, I have to say I was very disappointed with Sky last night. The after game interviewer began it all by insulting young Ameobi by suggesting "he doesn't know what he's going to do" and this theme continued with Shepherd, Laws and Beresford. Ameobi clearly found it insulting and so did I. The lad knew exactly what he was doing and did it very well. Some of my mates watching thought there was a borderline race element to it. i.e. stupid young black man. I wouldn't say that but I did think they showed a complete lack of respect.
