I agree in principle, but there is something about Winksy now that goes beyond fitness. I hope he can turn it around, but he's on borrowed time and getting subbed after such a poor display against a bottom of the third level team doesn't bode well. I hope I'm wrong.....
Surely if he played so well before he has it in him and he can get back to there again. He's still young and can't just become crap overnight can he?
This new VAR bloke we signed is very prolific in front of goal. Looks a spitting image of Llorente but clearly a much better finisher. Great signing!
I didn’t think Foyth was that bad, you can definitely see his potential. Hopefully Pochettino has got him young enough to get him to the level he thinks he can get him to
Just thinking about var imagine if what happened tonight was at old Trafford fergie would have eaten the ref and spat him out at half time there would have been 20 minutes fergie time added on and var would be scrapped altogether
He's definitely got age on his side to improve. His positioning was woeful for their goal...was caught ball watching and was hesitant in backing up Trippier on the few occasions he(Trippier) was beaten. I agree though, these are all signs of inexperience.
Totally agree mate, the kid is a real talent and Poch has said how highly he rates him. He is young and lacks positional awareness due to lack of experience. This will come in time. I was dissapointed with Dier who was very good against Palace but as the more experienced man should have marshalled Foyth better tonight.
Var is ****e and as fergie had the fa in his pocket he would have had it scrapped .even the Pedro mendes goal wouldn't have stood
Gotta disagree, mate. How would you define as "doing great"? For me, he's always been a safe player, often looks for the easiest pass which is likely to the side or back. He doesn't offer much going forward but I thought maybe in time he'd start to look at taking control of games once he became more experienced/ established but that just hasn't happened. We were up against the team bottom of League One today, returning from injury or not, if you can't showcase some class against them and look to control the game in the centre, even if just for 60 minutes, then something is definitely wrong. We tend to rely heavily on our CMs for separate reasons. One to snuff out attacks (Dier/ Wanyama) and one to go and pass forward, linking the play (Dembele), I'd hoped Winks would eventually be another option to Dembele, I never expected him to ghost past players like Mousa does but with a passing range that Winks has, you'd hope he'd play a somewhat Carrick or Modric role and feed our wingers or Eriksen, he just doesn't do that I'm afraid. He still seems to look backwards or to the side firstly rather than looking forward, it just isn't helpful, it gets us nowhere when we're looking to score a goal and in many games of late when he has played, he's been caught in possession far too regularly. Mason and Bentaleb were both a lot better when they broke through in my opinion and both have been sold by the club. Winks for me needs to massively up his game if he's not to follow the same fate. We have Oakley-Boothe knocking on the door, he's already looking like a young Mousa, not forgetting Josh will return from loan in the summer... Where does it leave Winks if all he does is lose possession or pass to the CBs?
Winks is just an l and an i short of being a Wilkins. Which might not be a good omen. Great as a young player. Then became unable to do anything other than pass the ball square.
Anyone notice that at one point he said "Walter-Pekers"! Commentator had a mare tonight, nearly as bad as the VAR jobsworth.
well...not only did I freeze my nuts off but I have no fecking idea what happened with Lamelas goal or the penalty...VAR is awful for fans at the game cos you have no idea what is going on. Every goal is celebrated then there is confusion cos the ref has his finger in his ear so you have this weird delay. The Lamela goal and the decision to give a penalty was not even put on the screen as VAR but the disallowing of the penalty goal was ... and why was son booked? As for the match... Rose us a shadow of his former self. Foyth reminds me of a young Kaboul...lots of potential but has a mistake in him. Lamela is a stroppy mo fo and although he is not headed he tries to lead by example. Winks reminds of Ryan Mason when he struggled to regain form after his injury v Sunderland. Winks seems bereft of confidence. Sissoko worked his arse off covering for Rose being out of shape and position. Llorente was as good in the second half as he was appalling in the first. I really hope this kick starts his career at Spurs but I remember having the same hopes with Soldado and Janssen! Dier's form continues to worry me ... he did well 2nd half but in the first half he made several errors. Our second half performance was perfect we came out and went for their throats ... we did the same in the first half but after the penalty we seemed to feel sorry for ourselves and that was inexcusable but at least this time there was a great 2nd half response. The weather was awful but good fun and the match is in the recordbooks for being the first in England to have 2 goals ruled out by VAR.
