At present, relegations can occur at any time, with betting suspended until the month next following the available balance reaching zero. I've been thinking , until now, that, maybe, promotions might take place once a year. My thoughts now are as follows: 1. Everyone, including the very best professional gamblers, have losing runs 2. At present, the only way is down 3. The current rules favour those (myself included) who just happened to start off on a winning streak 4. A year is far too long to operate a promotion process in a competition 5. It is a fun game and therefore there should be more incentives to make it more fun So I'm thinking that at the end of each month there should be an opportunity for promotion along the following lines: 1. Promotions will occur only at the end of each month, following completion of racing on the last day of the month 2. To get a promotion one must, at that stage, be able to repay £1,000 and remain in profit 3. Promotion can only be to the next highest League, regardless of the amount of profit 4. There will be just 4 tiers, Premier League, Championship, League 1 and League 2. Relegation from League 2 will result in elimination from the competition I was also thinking of a maximum stake rule (based on % of available balance) but it will not be possible to provide available balances after each race and it would be too onerous for everyone to keep track of their own balances. A fixed maximum stake could not be fairly applied.
I also voted DM. I think that any rule change will favour some and disfavour (is that a word?) others. It could be argued that one would have betted differently had the new system been known in advance! I LIKE the idea of maximum stakes, but that would stop players from "playing up" their winnings, and you would need to restart the comp for it to be fair to all. So as always, it's your comp Ron - you say jump, we say how high
I like the sound of this Ron and will keep the competition fun. Might I be so bold as to add a stipulation though? This is after all a competition with an overall winner with a prize at the end so might I suggest that anyone who has ever been relegated at any stage in the competition not be eligible for the big prize come the end?
You could just take money out of it completely and calculate win percentage. But I thought the title of he comp says it all - a year long to accrue the most profit through discipline and intelligent staking. That is what appealed to me about the comp.
A good punter can make a good annual profit even if he has a disastrous first month. The prize I will donate to the nearest non relegated person.
That's exactly what has set me thinking Oddy. It is a year long competition. So if one person makes a healthy profit overall but has 2 bad months, in particular at the start, what is the fairest way. The potential change would effectively be saying everyone has a controlled £4,000 overdraft which may only be drawn down in accordance with the rules. As (I think) you alluded to, it could just be one league table. The leagues was just an idea to introduce a bit more fun which, on reflection, would need an option to earn promotion. And to be perfectly honest it was also to restrict the number in one table because I use the snipping tool to post the tables which means it's easier if the table can be displayed within a screen
Looks like the Rule change is carried so having looked at the situation at the end of February it's congratulations to Mick who has been promoted back to the Premier, having repaid his second advance. All those relegated at the end of February will now be advanced a further £1,000. Revised League Tables will be posted later but, to recap and summarise At the end of January the following were relegated to the Championship mick the jolly sailor Ardent1965 smokethedeadbadger beeforsalmon Cyclonic NDS stick Fabulous Fabio DreverSpur Bostonbob ChelseaCOE2012 Mick has amassed sufficient profit to repay his further advance and remain in profit resulting in promotion back to the Premier League At the end of February the following have been relegated to League 1 stick Fabulous Fabio DreverSpur Bostonbob ChelseaCOE2012 Leaving in the championship Ardent1965 smokethedeadbadger beeforsalmon Cyclonic NDS
I'm fed up with this comp already I won't be playing anymore. Making up new rules to appease those with no discipline. Some need to have a reel hard look at themselves.
I suggested that once you're out then thats it but i was shot down because people wanted to keep playing even though they'd blown their grand. But then i took my head out of arse and realised its just a fun competition brilliantly organised by Ron for everyone to enjoy
It's a new comp FP being tried out. The rules are evolving but there will be no rule changes that would have to be applied retrospectively. No idea who you think the rule changes are aiming to appease to be honest. Bearing in mind it is a long term comp, the aim is to give everyone an ongoing interest without jeopardising the main aim of finding the punter of the year. All bets are recorded as are all advances so at the end of the year we have all the info needed to award the title and, if we want, other consolation awards can be determined. The Rule changes have been implemented to keep as many interested as possible for as long as possible. The main title will still be awarded on the basis of the original Rule. I have to point out that I am not changing the Rules on a whim. I simply review from time to time whether I have set up the competition correctly bearing in mind its long term nature and any significant Rule changes have been put to the vote before being implemented. I'm sorry you feel the need to drop out FP. I have removed you from the competition but if I spot you posting a bet I'll re-instate you, no problem. I see you have left with a healthy profit. Well done to you sir.
