I was a bit surprised with the ratings that Altered Carbon was getting 6.8 on Rotten Tomaoes which is the site I mainly use, IMDB was a lot better at 8.4 and is a better relfection on the show as a whole. I haven't finished it yet and don't know if there is going to be a season 2 but this is a programme people need to get behind.

The first 20 minutes of Alien created the buzz for the entire franchise and it was all anybody was talking about. It's the humdrum of space life which makes the thing bursting through John Hurt's stomach all the more effective, and that was down to Dan Bannon, who did the humdrum earlier in Dark Star with John Carpenter:

My guess at your quiz would be Spielberg - Close Encounters, Jaws and Private Ryan. He doesn't do comedy well but 1941 is still the only Speileberg I own and he wasn't scared to take the mick out of himself:

Finished. As you are not I'll obviously not go into details lol.

Thought it was good. Lost it's way deciding what it was at times...veered from cyberpunk/film noir to the formula being used on the likes of flash or arrow and back again but despite clearly borrowing from the likes of Blade Runner and Dark Angel it had enough of its own substance and style to enjoy.

Thought most of the cast and character formation was very good ....with the exception of Reileen who was a bit 2d by the end. (Although Dichen Lachman is a stunning woman) just not sure she could pull off what was needed.

Concepts were great. Visuals clearly had money spent on them which was needed for the story.

There's a sequel novel so second series is altogether possible (hate this should I read the novels or wait lol).

Oh and just couldn't decide who I enjoyed seeing naked more: Dichen, Martha or Kristen lol.... and applause goes to James Purefoy for being big enough (cough) to be the actor to go full frontal lol

Good stuff. Episode 6 (the flashback to how they became Envoys) was superb so I'm looking forward to the rest. I hope there's more, there are 2 more novels.

Can't believe you've got through them all!

Got Mrs luv into Alias Grace, she's loving it.

I thought Altered Carbon got off to a slow start, but in retrospect, I suppose it had to as the premise is quite complex and the scene has to be set up in order to build on. Finished ep 3 last night and I'm now hooked. Some quite explicit filth going on as well <laugh>

Watched a very good film on Film 4 last night - Big Eyes. True story as well. Keep your eyes open for it. Christoph Waltz plays a **** once again. He's very good at that <laugh>

There are lots of nice attractive nudes in it... But I didn't make it past episode two. All visuals and no plot. Not my kind of show. It's a shame I really wanted to like it.

Anyone seen "Hard Sun", it's available in the US starting today on Hulu. Worth watching? Supposedly by creator of Luther which is a positive.

I may give it another chance if I run out of other things to watch.

The only character on it that didn't seem flat and unlikeable was Poe. I'd watch a show about him... <laugh>

The Mexican cop and the lead guy are both obnoxious.

Po is very good. The main is supposed to be mean and moody and they build the character well as it goes on. Granted it's slow but it's 10 episodes so why not.
It builds into a very good show, episode 6 is superb almost like a mini action film.

Watched the first couple, didn't get on with so it binned it. Wasn't really sure what they were aiming for, is it govt conspiracies show, cop show or apocalypse show?
