i'm no expert , only years of accumulated failure have given me experience , but concur totally with stick on lingfield , the worst of them all , two furlong sprint off the final corner , so much luck required / bad luck stories abound , i remember the original lingfield surface , that was great for punters , it was totally changed , the kickback was so bad no horse would face it , so tactics were simple , blast off and kick up the crap into those behind , brian meehan was very succesful using this in sprints , didn't last long mind . Newcastle has to be the fairest , chelmsford is fair in my opinion , wolves is ok , kempton you have to watch the draw in sprints and shortish races , southwell i like , for same reasons as others , it's unique , suits the soft ground lovers , a very fair track , but they alll provide consistency in the going etc , lingfield is defoe the worst for a punter !!
just as an aside , very few horses are able to perform on all the different types of surface , amazing how many southwell winners then run at wolves say , are made fav and come nowhere , form at southwell doesn't translate elsewhere , although i've noted chelmsford is similar in configuration and surface probably closer than the other tracks to fibresand , note that derek shaw who is a southwell specialist does particularly well at chelmsford , he runs many at both tracks , along with mick appleby , a southwell maestro ...... anyhow i'm sure we'll alll be grateful to them this next week or so !!
I don't watch much of it but surprised there is a draw bias at kempton as i thought they had the cut away 2 furlongs out which should counteract this? Also don't forget the best sand track - Laytown.
The reason I like lingfield is winners can be had wide coming into the straight or up the inside as shown on Saturday. As for Chelmsford I'd be interested to know how far their straight is.
Exactly, drawn out wide you've got double the problem, it' s not impossible to win from a wide draw but very unlikely.....
Chelmsfords only down the road from me. I've never been.from what I've heard it's a great surface and a very fair track but you can't see naff all and they want 30 quid for the privilege.
Call me a snob but I just can't be arsed with all weather racing as it is such low quality. At least most NH cards offer a decent novice hurdle and a bumper where you might be able to spot one for the future and the big weekend fixtures are usually very decent. To me the all weather consists mainly of the same horses running against each other again and again in class 5 or 6 handicaps with the weights tweaked slightly on each occaision. There probably is more to it than that, I know some of the big yards like to start their young horses on the all weather but whenever I see a race on that brown stuff it just all feels a bit ****. (This may well stem from the fact that I watch racing for the love of it, not for any betting perspective - so the whole argument about the form being more reliable etc is kind of lost on me).
Give it a couple of weeks and you'll be gagging for it.my weather forecaster tell me this snow is gonna be in for a month already. Cheltenham is looking dodgy.
It’s cold but an extremely nice sunny day! We had a bit of snow but hardly anything Covers have been on and the ground is officially good to soft! Beautiful days racing ahead!
Plumpton 3pm Sue be it 9/1 each way. Usually avoid mid week plays with the exception of the big meetings but have been told this one will at least place today and at 9s not a bad each way play...
