    haha
It is just that some put getting 2nd as more important than getting a CL place. There is a subtle difference as I am sure you are aware.

No doubt that we want to be aiming to finishing as high as possible. But top 4 is crucial and I rather we secure that first.

Hate seeing united win but it was the best result for us in terms of getting top 4.

Chelsea have city next so I’m hoping we get extend that lead over 5th.

No real difference between second and third other than prize money. There is a difference with fourth because you only get a CL qualifying spot, therefore your season starts a few weeks earlier.

There is also the fact that second in the league sounds better (because it is) than fourth when selling the club to potential players

its what you do with it.

    we got a second
    arsenal got second
    spurs got a second

have we seen anyone really progress from 2nd onwards? as in win the thing?

chelsea win. spurs second last year. no spurs progression
leicester win arsenal second. they go 5th the next year
chelsea win. city 2nd. city implode next year.
city win. us 2nd. we fall apart next year.
utd win city 2nd. but they are swapping titles.

so.... really consistent progression seems rare to get to a title as a coming team. its more all big money and 3 teams.. utd city and chelsea winning it.

    No more.

No real difference as 4th in the premiership now go into the CL proper as from 2018. That was/is my whole point.

Going into the final straight, 3 contenders with us in 4th >>> 4 contenders with us in 2nd (unless we are mathematically "uncatchable") ;)

It's about progressing and pushing on. For off to get top 4 two years running is huge.

To put spurs out of it or Chelsea is a big deal. Whether it's 2nd 3rd or 4th it is building credibility.

Fair enough, other point still stands though.

It's starting to look like you'll get your wish anyway, Chelsea could be out of it after their next three league fixtures.

    Fingers crossed.

If City do their job, we could relax...just a little. We still need to do our own job though.

    10 games 7 wins.

Second last game crucial now but we have a cushion

Newcastle next take out shelvey and the rest are not at the level to keep up with us

We should be able to brush Newcastle aside, with or without Rafa and/or Shelvey.

they couldn't keep a (rather lucky) 2-0 goal lead at Bournemouth and ended up with a draw.

If we win the next 3-4 matches we'll be confident. The match at OT may prove the turning point and a great boost if we win.

Should and do are two different things.

If we beat Utd yes that's a huge one as it opens us up into a run in right to Chelsea we can win.

So... really it's about ticking them off and twisting the knife in the others til something cracks.

    Hopefully it's not us.

At the very least, we should be winning our 5 home matches with ease. That alone will put us on 72 points.

Top 4 matches: I marked matches that you would expect a side to be 50/50 on in red. the rest would be surprises if a win doesn't happen

    Utd:
    Palace (a)
    LFC (h)
    West ham (A)
    Swansea (h)
    City (a)
    WBA (H)
    Bournemouth (a)
    Arsenal (h)
    Brighton (a)
    Watford (h)

    LFC
    Newcastle (h)
    Utd (a)
    watford (h)
    Palace (a)
    Everton (a)
    Bournemouth (h)
    WBA (a)
    Stoke (a)
    Cheslea (a)
    Brighton (h)

    Cheslea:
    City (a)
    Palace (h)
    Burnely (a)
    Spurs (h)
    West ham (h)
    Southampton (a)
    Huddersfield (h)
    Swansea (a)
    LFC (h)
    Newcastle (a)

    Spurs
    huddersfield (h)
    Bournemouth (a)
    Newcastle (h)
    chelsea (a)
    stoke (a)
    city (h)
    Brighton (a)
    Watford (h)
    WBA (a)
    Leicester (h)

This is why i think spurs will piss into top 4. their run in is easiest by far. They have city and cheslea but no other even marginal games for them.

If you look at utds: they just need to see off two teams and i think arsenal are now so busted utd will piss through them at home. I think having beaten cheslea they have to be favorites for top 4 as well.

That leaves us and cheslea. We normally beat everton, just a fact recent seasons but allardyce is well capable of putting 11 behind the ball and with a friendly ref who's doing a derby not a regualr game he can kick lumps out of us most of the game. thats a tough one for us. After that we have the 2 big games.

I feel as though we will be playing cheslea needing any result to get top 4 on that second last day.

Cheslea slipped up yesterday big time. If they can't recover v city

All things being equal 7 wins and 2 draws form each side needed. so ANY slip up at all could well be fatal here.

right now. I think out of 30 points all 4 teams are capable of getting 25. Chelsea most challenged.

    53 (cheslea) + 25 = 78.

so 78 is the target for 4th which is monumental target

now admittedly spurs play cheslea in a crucial top 4 game but spurs can win the other 8 games they have and still get 25 points even if they lose

    53+ 21 = 74 points absolute minimum needed
    53+ 25 = 78.

LFC need to be at least in the middle of that range to be safe.

with 57 in the bag we need 20 points from 30. IMO 7 wins is enough as long as we don't lose to chelsea.

With a 4 point lead and superior GD over Chelsea and only having lost 3 games all season in the league, you should get Home quite comfortably imo.

You’d have to proper bottle it or have some massive injury pile up, to blow it from here imo, and despite a few tricky aways left, your home fixtures look favourable.

should do but any loss of form or blow up by any side now will be fatal IMO.

lets be clear though. Last year coutinho came in and brought us home after his injury but mane got injured

This year we are looking a side that NEEDS salah to be fit. If salah stays fit and is scoring a goal a game we should be able to ride that pony home.

you are right the games are no ones we should be losing.

Arsenal were scraping top 4 for years without anyone taking them seriously. Coming 2nd sends the message that not only are you actually in the CL (even Celtic can do that) but that you intend to compete.
