had a sneaking suspicion ah for the old days - was once on a ward ,ex TB hospital ,where there was a covered "lean to" running length of the ward and double doors at the end.Nurses would get people out of bed and wheel them into the lean to to have a smoke. On nice days they would open the double doors and wheel beds outside. Saw the slightly bizarre sight of a nurse bringing in beer for some bloke who was bedbound wheeling him outside and helping him drink the beer & have a smoke mind you if you could get about there was a bar on site
I had my annual physical earlier this week. Beside my vit-D being low I'm all healthy; my blood work the best it's been in years. I'm a little concerned about my doctor though, he seems a little too enthusiastic about prostate checks. Last year he asked me to bend over the table and when I queried why he said "oh, that's right you're not old enough for a prostate exam yet.". This year in a very chipper voice he said "and next year you start getting a prostate exam." It's almost like he's counting down the days to stick a finger in my bum. I may need to change doctors.
When I went for my first check up just before Xmas after I was 50 the doctor did the prostate exam and when he finished and removed his finger he said " Well that's the checkup finished, Happy Xmas" I replied " A card would have done", he just looked at me as if I was a nutter.
I don't know when they start, unlike certain members of this board I very seldom go to the doctors. I was called in because I had not been to the doctors for about 11/12 years. I think they were just trawling through the records and calling in anyone they had not seen for ages. That was 9 years ago and I have been once since to get a referral due to sleep apnoea, I was in danger of losing my driving licence as apparently it is "frowned upon" to fall asleep at the wheel. Makes a journey a bit more exciting if you ask me.
If you get no sleep due to having the condition you tend to fall asleep during the day, especially if doing something like motorway driving. It is basically sleep deprivation.
I’ve watched a guy with sleep apnoea fall asleep on the phone mid conversation. It just clicks in, it’s a bit weird to watch lol.
Surely that's narcolepsy? Apnoea is when you stop breathing whilst asleep. I suppose like GK says the latter can lead to the former.
I’ve known 2 blokes with it and the apnea caused them to be capable of just falling asleep at the drop of a hat during the day, due to extreme fatigue. The treatment for both was to sleep with an air mask thing on, as well as being told to lose weight and stay off the ale lol.
Yeah, I've heard about the air mask gizmo. Seems like it's quite an awkward contraption. I've had mild apnoea on occasions, but not enough to keep we awake for long periods.
I’ve not had apnea but have suffered from insomnia and it’s a nightmare. Sleep deprivation over time is hard to live with.
