If we go down it will be our failure to finish off games that takes us down. Only 1 defeat in 8 games, but only 2 wins in those 8 games.
His tactics created enough chances to win even with Bournemouth's comeback at the end. Perez and Atsu/Shelvey chances in the second half would have had it wrapped up. You can debate the last two subs but trying to protect a lead and bringing on fresh legs is understandable.
I would be surprised if there's another team who have dropped more points from winning positions than us this season. **** me this feels like a loss.
You might be right, but I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't. I'm not sure our lack of goals has even got us into winning positions that often. We've almost certainly failed to capitalise on games where we were creating chances more than any other team though.
Sure they do and you get them with better players who can score easy chances when they present themselves.
We should have been 4 up before Bournemouth scored. Absolute sitters for Perez and Shelvey. We will come to rue our missed chances. Great to see we have a good keeper at last.
On the plus side, I think most of us said two games ago that we'd take three points from our next three games, and we've got four points from two of those games so far!
Playing like this will relegate us. We have to start taking our chances!! We should have been out of sight before their first goal.
so we chucked away a 2 nil lead , because the players are **** then .. and bournmouth must be better than us then .
I was at the game. Sat in the home end though. Bournemouth were so bad until the 80th min. We deserved the 1st half lead. Easily should have wrapped it up. Mousset and Smith made a big difference for Bournemouth when they came on.
They are though, and we shouldn't expect anything else. They are a reasonably well established Premier League side and we are a promoted championship club. Our target this season is to survive and nothing more. I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised that Bournemouth are better than us.
We played better than them for 80 minutes and should have won, but that is a completely different issue than which is the better team. We beat Man Utd, but none of us would claim to be a better team than them. Beating Bournemouth would have been a great result, and we created the chances to do it. We should have made the most of the chances we created and made sure that they were never in a position to get back into the game today. We threw it away because of our lack of ability to convert chances into goals. It has been our issue all season. We knew before the season started that we needed to go out and get a proven Premier League goalscorer and for whatever reason we failed to do it. We are paying the penalty for that.
Mixture of things really. If Shelvey and Perez score we are out of sight. I understand Benitez getting them to sit in second and hit on the break too. Viable tactic for me. The subs were horrific though. Taking off Gayle for Hayden was so negative. Then bringing on that ****hawk Manquillo, I knew what was coming. Harsh to lay it all at Benitez door as it wouldn’t have mattered if the chances were taken. However they weren’t and after that I wasnt impressed with how disjointed Benitez made us. He still hasn’t learnt that a tired player who is up to speed with the match, is sometimes more use than a player who disjoints us or gets caught cold. I don’t mind fresh legs up top or like for like, but in that situation today it stank of panic. Which is what we did.
